Jon Gruden (Tampa Bay Bucs) discussion

Name a few examples of NFL coaches that succeeded but failed in college. Gruden would be a perfect hire.

The only way Gruden would be possible is if he wanted to try and win on the college level. If he wants to be a pro coach, he will be a pro coach.

In a very weak conference 5-2 in the NFC SOUTH. How does that translate to the SEC? You usually dont win SEC championships with that Plus they still have half a season to go and are second in their division.
Yes I'll concede he is a good NFL coach, took Raiders to Super Bowl and then won it with Dungys team, but does that really make a case for him as our coach?

Sorry but that argument works both ways. Some guys are college coaches some are NFL coaches. No disrespect but its not the same game!

OK

Please do not wish for him as coach. Yes he won a Super Bowl, but with a team Tony Dungy put together!
Oh God pray hard that he isn't lured to the Hill. Just think No one has put together a team he can take over and win with! JUST LOOK AT US! JUST SAY NO TO GRUDEN PLEASE!!!!

Fine. The team he beat in the Superbowl was his own team the year before. (He beat the Oakland Raiders in the Superbowl, a team he coached the previous 4 seasons)

So either way, he had a team that he coached in the Superbowl.

Just thinking about hiring John Gruden is exciting. I can't imagine a situation where a college team could hire an NFL coach with a super bowl ring in his mid 40's.

It would be amazing. As I said in another thread, I would gladly have Fulmer another year, if it meant Gruden would be here in 2010.

That said, unless the Buccaneers collapse, I don't see him leaving this season.

theres only 2 coaches with national championships in college and super bowl wins - jimmie johnson and barry switzer. Your Turn

I don't know about everyone else on here, but when my wife says jump... I ask how high. If Mrs. Gruden wants to come home to TN, the JG may be compelled to do so.:D

Wrong. NFL coaches don't have as much control putting a team together as college coaches. It was the owner's team, Gruden just coached it to a Super Bowl win.

That is because the others couldn't win a Superbowl, not the other way around.

No that means the NFL and College Football are 2 different games. The coaches mentioned are great college football coaches. they failed in the NFL they came back to coach college and are successful. my point is being good at one doesnt automaticaly make you good at the other. You are dealing with different types of players. Is Gruden quallified for this, maybe , maybe not. No one knows

Someone with Gruden's visability and resume would have to be a complete idiot to fail at TN. Everything is in place here. All you have to have is a competant coaching staff that can develop players. If Gruden can coach in the NFL, with the level of success he has had, why would anyone think he couldn't do it at TN? He may not have recruited much in his career, but IMO, players would flock to TN if he came here.

Pete Carroll failed at the NFL first, then dominated College Football.

From 1984-1999, Carroll was in the NFL.

Now he has a 83-15 record, & 2 National Championships.
