As much as I like Gruden, trust me I do. I don't think we need another Oakland/Tampa coach right now. Maybe its just my superstition, but after what just happened those two places are on my blacklist right now.

Man, all this talk about who can and who can't recruit has my head spinning. What is the big deal about recruiting, anyway? By that, I mean how hard can it be to recruit? Most of the kids who are being recruited are being swayed by either their parents, siblings or coach. And they are all being told (lied to, for the most part) that they are going to get to play their desired position and be starting on day 1 if they out-perform the incumbent who's ahead of them in their spot. Sometimes this isn't a lie, but most of the time it is.

From what I understand about it, recruiting is just selling something. And the best salesmen are high energy, straight up LIARS who think fast and have no concern for anything but making the sale.

Seriously, saying Gruden couldn't recruit is ridiculous. Have you seen him on ESPN? He is very well spoken. He is also relatively young, energetic, and, oh yea, has a super bowl ring. He also has more NFL experience than Kiffin and everyone in that staff, except Monte, had put together. The guy would also be a big name and a big splash. A pipe dream? probably. But I think it would be a great hire.

Just listened to the replay of Mike and Mike on ESPN radio.
I can Confirm he did not rule it out. Also said that the last 48 hrs in Knoxville had Blown his mind. Stated that Tennessee was close to his heart, that's were he meet his wife. probably the most telling words he said were that he had in his "Laboratory" taken a close look at all the college offenses, the spread and such. Looking in on how to improve on them and defend against them.

This is exactly what we need!

We all hate Kiffin for what he did, but the fact that we had so much NFL experience on our staff is what pulled in our recruiting classes. If we somehow managed to bring in Gruden watch out. I strongly believe he is the best option to salvage our current recruiting class.

This guy is what we need! Fairly young, energetic, NFL experience and pretty ring on his finger to show off.

I have no source or no reliable information, just want to discuss.

Why Gruden? He never came out and said "I'm not interested in that job, I love working for you guys here at ESPN..but it's a special place"

I know a lot of you think he just was being nice and helping out the university but call me crazy....I think he will be the next head coach of the Vols. I'm hoping and praying everyone involved knows we need to hit a homerun with a hire and are willing to shell out the money for him! Things are just too quit around him for me not to think otherwise. I'm probably way off...just something fishy about all the other supposed candidates.

Gruden was the first coach that poped into my head after Kiffin left but in all seriousness he had already been contacted by NFL teams this year wanting him to come coach but he wanted to spend another year in the broadcast booth.... I would like to seem him in orange too cause he is an intense coach but lets get real man i just dont see it happening but i just dont have too much hope at the moment.....

I'm starting to agree. Why on Mike and Mike this morning would he not outright say he wasn't coming or release a statement even though his name was mentioned immediately as a top candidate.
