Jon Adams does it again

who cares what rival fans think?

We should all care what our rival fans think. After all, we're all in this together and causing distress to rival fans could be devastating to their self esteem. In the end, we're all winners.

Yet our school anthem is pretty much about killing DEA agents and drinking moonshine.

Yet "Third Down For What?" is inappropriate.

I get it John. You're old and Lil' Jon has dreads and a crunkcup which is very very very scary.

Now that you posted this, all of the libs will be protesting to change the words of Rocky Top to something more PC.

"Once two strangers climbed ol Rocky Top,
Looking for a pickle a la dill
Strangers aint come down from Rocky Top
They're too busy saving baby seals.

Corn dont grow at all on Rocky Top
Dirts too rocky by far,
That's why all the folks on Rocky Top
Get their corn from hydroponically grown, organic corn stalks"

Thanks a lot...

John Adams is essentially Tipper Gore in this.. dont like what kids are doing? Blame the rappers... this is rediculous, how can you expect student athletes to take responsibility for there actions when members of the press are blaming Coach Jones and Lil Jon for them.. this guy is an idiot!

Why do people complain about an article then link it where it gets more hits? Adams is completely unworthy of even being discussed at this point, just forget the dirtbag exists. Anyone that says fans should boycott homecoming is a scumbag POS and fans of that program should do their part to make sure he no longer has a job covering the team they support.

It's not a bad idea. I usually dislike Adam's material, but he's not wrong.

Who cares anyway? It was fun for awhile. Now it's been done. Move on.

If this were Metallica it'd be a different story.:rock::rock::rock::rock::rock::rock::rock::rock:

Why are people on VN still linking his trash? Stop giving him more clicks....

Why are we linking to him? Because some people see the big picture, and some people refuse to see anything. No matter how childish you might wish the world to be, there always has to be an adult in the room. In this case Jon Adams is the adult.

Some one told me that the cat was a musician, singer and dj.. I have heard him, he may be a wanna-be DJ but his voice has the melodious tones of such notable crooners as Elmer Fudd or Daffy Duck.

Rappers have historically disrespected women and any authority symbol that exists. From my perspective, they serve no purpose other than the promotion of disrespect and social mayhem.

Send this cat packing.

This leaves us in quite a quandary doesn't it. Do we play music that fires up 18-22 year old football players, or do we crank up the Bing Crosby? Personally, I think rap music is basically garbage, but that's what the young folk seems to like. I'm sure the older folks felt the same way about the music I listened to as a teen.

Just based on the headline (I'm not giving him a page view), this screams "old white man out of touch with current culture."

Does Jonathan Smith actually have any association to UT or did the players pick that song and then he became a fan? I dont listen to rap or like it so I dont really care if they drop the song, but the 'logic' this douche writer makes is Ludacris.

I get it John. You're old and Lil' Jon has dreads and a crunkcup which is very very very scary.

No, I dont think you get it, kid. "Lil" Jon is 43.

I'm not reading it but I love third down for what. It's instilled in my brain. I was playing madden last night and every third down felt weird without it. Yeah I still play madden. Say something

I mainly listen to Southern Gospel music and loathe Rap music. However I was at the first UT game I've been to in several years last week. 3rd Down for What was AWESOME. 100,000+ fans standing in unison getting loud on every third down was great. As far as banning Lil Jon, that's ridiculous. What next John Adams, ban players from listening to their Rap music on their Beats during warm ups? If AJ and Williams are guilty it has nothing to do with Lil Jon or Rap music.

Call him and let him know.

John Adams is a senior columnist. He may be reached at 865-342-6284 or adamsj@knoxnews.com.

What good would that do? It's like posting on here, though I know SOME of the posters on here will reply with something stupid, it assume someone with a certain level of reason and intelligence might read it. if I message Adams personally, i know without a doubt only a manipulative hypocrite will read it, and if he quote's me or others, it will be twisted to his pathetic advantage.

I await his retirement with a giddy hope that whoever replaces him will be worth reading.

It's a shame that journalists such as Adams have a public platform from which they could possibly affect some positive change or at least healthy discussion.

A columnist such as Adams could actually address issues such as the Johnson situation in such a manner to get the public thinking about how to possibly improve society and this is the bullsh-t he comes up with, slamming a rapper for being misogynistic.

If John Adams is the adult in the room, we are in big trouble.

If he was half the "columnist" he claims to be he'd have researched the song and seen the disclaimer on the video.

literally_Icant.png

Yes, he probably missed that the video was intended as satire. But in all fairness to JA, that would be easy to do if one misses the small print disclaimer below it, as I almost did.

Jon Adams is so politically correct he pukes as oppose to taking a crap. I am a staunch conservative, but yet I see no harm in a changed segment of a song being used as a way to help our team on defense. It's a crowd pleaser, and evidently a UT helper, because we rank high in the country in 3rd down defense. This part of the song has nothing to do with xrated rap songs! My comment would be, "lighten up Francis!" And also to stfu!
