Me too. In my War and Peace length study of THE RULES I pointed out that though I did not like the call, replay is the real offender here. Unless they have other video evidence to the contrary, the play was live per rule 4.2 till the whistle was blown and the only whistle I have seen presented so far was after the ball broke the plane. This presentation at least shows it was replayed and should end all the stupid massively overplayed rhetoric that forward progress calls are not reviewable. Rule 12.3.3.e puts that to rest. The other one I have heard is that a guy running in with his arm up kills the play. The rule requires a whistle or a signal not a hand motion and that is not one of the 47 defined signals in the same book and most used to explain a call not make one, and kind of stupid to think all the players on the field are checking the sideline to see if the play is dead and stop legal offensive or defensive effort. That is why they give them whistles. Every few years a call gets me wound up and this is one. I hate coverups more than admissions of error.

Seeing those two plays back to back (our play vs the Purdue tight end) only reaffirms my position. Looks like our play lasted even less of an amount of time.

I like it better without the blue front. The cremated parts would go great in my mustard bottle on the mantle.

If you don't force the issue they will hide behind their NOT REVIEWABLE rhetoric again. The replay booth needs to be called to task, possibly suspended for their ruling. I found one more applicable ruling in the NCAA 21 Instant Replay Casebook concerning whether or not categorically forward progress plays are reviewable when there is no down by contact on the play and is in fact RULED to end the play.

If they cannot show a whistle ending the play before the ball broke the plane or a rule that says the play ended before the whistle they messed up. I don't think it is there, but it is a big book. NO EXCUSES.

Running Plays

19. Forward progress with respect to a first down

Third and 10 on the B-20. A22 runs to the B-9, where he is pushed back to the Team B 15-yard line and is never downed. Officials rule forward progress was stopped at the Team B 11-yard line. RULING: Reviewable play, regarding whether A22 had made the line to gain. Reverse to A 1-Goal on B-9, reset clock if within two minutes of the first half or five minutes of the second half and start on Referee’s signal (Rule 12-3-3-e).

Did the ball break the plane before the whistle? If an earlier whistle sounded it would be a bad call but the ball would be dead. This just proves the official does not get to impose his will on a live ball.

Step 4 Alt: Ship refs to central Africa to the din din tribe and let them become dinner. (ship with hot sauce included because there’s no way the refs don’t taste like booty)
