I read this guy's post in a Tennessean article and it sent me down memory lane. I can remember Majors' interviews that were, at times, very painful to listen too. As I recall it seems like all he ever said was, "attack, attack, attack" and "good body lean". Anyway, you may remember another Johnny-ism and here's the guys post that made me laugh....

MEANING THAT INSTATE PLAYERS HAVE WHAT JOHNNY CALLS, "FINE TENNESSEE HERITAGE AND MOMMA COOKS THE BEST BISQUITS." FOLKS, THAT ACTUAL JOHNNY TALK FROM THE OLD "JOHNNY MAJORS SHOW."

And here is an actual clip from the Johnny Majors show. You make him sound like a bumbling idiot, when that was not in fact the case. He had a lot of things that he said that were what I would call "countryisms" but that is because that is where he is from.

by the way, I loved Johnny, he set the stage for Tennessee's ascent to national prominence. He took us as far as he was able and then Phil took us to the promised land.

"dag-nabbit"

"sticks in my craw"

i'll never understand why johnny didn't do better at UT. it took him almost 10 years to win his first SECC.

Johnny cemented my allegiance to him when he made fun of Touch Down Jesus after the miracle at South Bend.

(I did gripe about "Johnny ball" a lot back in the day)

A few of my favorites:

Hit'em a lick
Bow your neck
Bust a gut
Laid our ears back
Put a hat on him.

These can be combined in many ways is in.

He busted a gut to get down field, laid his ears back, bowed his neck and put a hat on him. Yep, he hit him a lick.

That was great to watch. My wife met him a couple of weeks ago and she told him how much I loved TN football. Johnny gave her a piece of paper with his address & phone number on it and said for me to come have drinks at his place before the game and we'd "relive" some ole war stories. How kick ass is that???

I met him once when there was a roast for Andy Kelly here in Rhea County. I was pretty young maybe 10 or so but i remember him setting down at a cafeteria table at the High School and talking to me and my dad about pee wee football for maybe 30 minutes. I always love him after that and still have the pics and autographed sweatshirt.

Johnny was a character, there's no doubt about that. I just remember, as a kid, seeing him in interviews and not understanding a word he was saying. I really liked him, though,

My fav is the one during the Sugar Bowl pre-game speech..."they don't have any respect for you, make them remember you for the rest of their lives..."

Gets me fired up everytime I hear it.
