Wouldn't it be great to have the voice of the Vols come back for one more call? I was listening to the vol network vol. one and man did it sound good. I miss him so much

I'm probably the only Vol fan that feels this way, but I didn't enjoy listening to Ward that much. Too much of a homer, like Munson.

On a side note, my family used to live 2 houses down from John Ward growing up. When I was a kid, I remember thinking it was amazing that a legend was living down the street. I should've gotten his autograph. :)

Any truth to the story that Ward walked away because Dickey wanted to horn in on Vol Network profits/accounts that Ward had worked to build from the beginning of the network?

Love John Ward!!!!!

when I listen to the old calls it reminds of the days when that's all we had ( not many games on tv ; couldn't get to the hill every game ) it was great having him describe the game the way he did. Football time in Tennessee WOW

He was the voice of the Vols! What did you expect out of him?

Just me I guess, but I enjoy some sort of semblance of neutrality in announcers. Like I said, Larry Munson drove me crazy too with his extreme homerism. To each his own I guess.

I miss him alot!! I was thinking to myself the other day that I would like to hear him one more time, since we are having the 98 team back and everything. Then I thought what a great way to leave college football and UT with your last call being a National Championship. To me there is no better way to go out, especially for such a great man of his character. "20, 15, 10 and 5 your voice was our eyes and we could see.......TOUCHDOWN TENNESSEE!!!!!"

I just expect the radio announcer for the program to be biased. It's different than a TV analyst for a major network with no affiliation to the program. I agree with you about Larry Munson, though. I couldn't stand his voice or his sayings like the "hobnail boot" quote. I don't remember ever hearing John Ward disrespect an opponent.
