He was in Rogersville for a meet and greet on Friday I believe. Dunno other than that. Maybe someone that went can fill you in.

whatever he's doing, I sure wish he was doing something else, if you know what I mean.

kpt that was an excellent writeup on Majors and I think it should be mandatory for everyone to read it b4 they jump into the Fulmer debate. However, do you have an article on Ward?

that's alright kpt. Still a great article. Surprising to see it in govolsxtra. For all of Majors' faults, there's no doubt he got screwed. First time I've actually read anything with Majors talking about it.

I never got to hear any of his broadcasts:cray: how good was he?

I think it's fair to say that for those who remember his broadcasts...he was absolutely synonymous with Tennessee football. One was not complete without the other, and to a very real degree, I have felt lonesome during games since his departure.

I really never heard the TV commentators during a UT game until I was about 12. The only way my fam watched the game was with the TV volume down and radio on JW. The way he went out was just amazing too.

for him, it couldn't have been scripted any better. It was the perfect ending for a fine man and the best sports commentator there ever was.

He had his bag of usual stuff like that, but then sometimes, he would pull out something totally new and awesome, as if saved for a special occasion. I remember in the '86 Sugar Bowl win over the Canes, a rushing touchdown was scored - maybe some of you will remember the name of the runner, I don't - Ward said, "...finds the land of milk and honey!" I almost fell out of my seat..that was so great; I've never forgotten it!

he absolutely painted a picture with his words. at all times during the game, we knew the down and distance, the time left, the score, the formation.....everything. my best memories of UT football are like ones that have been said here already; tv turned down, john and bill doing their thing, OR sittin in the stands with a cheap "headset radio" (as my grandfather called it) watching and listening. he set up the pregame like an artist. gave you chills. i have actually gotten teary eyed hearing him yell "Its Football Time In Tennessee!!" I have a really old, cheap mug that I can't get rid of because it has that saying on it. LOL Noone else anywhere does it like him, or EVER will. the way these guys do it now and are taught to do it now, are without personality. sad, really
