John Ward has passed away.

Before there were 4K TV's, John Ward brought 4K radio to Tennessee fans all over the world! We could "see" the games just as clearly through his voice as we can on the latest 4K TV's available today.

RIP Mr. Ward.

like this....Ut Vols, clad in orange jerseys with white numerals, will be moving left to right on your radio dial....

Rest In Peace. Sad day for me as he is one reason I love the Vols. It’s hard for young fans today to understand the power of his voice and how well he described plays in the days before all games were televised.

Well, I wouldn't be much of a Vol fan if I didn't come here and pay my respects. I have been in shock all day. I guess I knew this day would come sooner than later, but that doesn't make it any easier. I am glad that we have a place we CAN go to and grieve and pay last respects, if you will, for John. We can't all go to his services or attend his funeral, so this will have to suffice. When it's all said and done, for my money, there will never be another that impacted a fan base like him. Rest in Paradise, You are missed.

I think a lot of us share these very sentiments. Thank you.

Sad day for all Vol fans. John Ward is an icon that can not be surpassed by anyone. I remember listening to him on the radio way back when. When I moved to Cali, I couldn't pick up the games on TV but I could still listen to JW on the radio via the internet. Some of my close friends and I were at the very last game he broadcast in Arizona. Awesome night for the Vols and an awesome night for John Ward. RIP John. We will all forever miss you.

Has anyone heard about the funeral arrangements or if they are doing anything for fans to pay their respects?

It just struck me that it's been 20 years since he called a game.

Kesling has been the voice for that long and is still suffering in his shadow.

My fav. J. Ward story is this. He once was the grand marshall of a parade in E. TN. He said he picked out a very old lady who looked like she only came down out of the mountains about twice per year to buy supplies. He waved and made eye contact with her, and she yelled, "give em six." It was probably better the way he told it.

He was ALL about the fans. That's the perfect story to demonstrate that.

Kesling is okay, but he's just not very creative almost to the point he's dull and boring at times. i wish he would retire and the Vols would go get Mike Keith to replace him.

Playing in a company golf tournament today. Pulled out the Tennessee polo and visor.

Just a little respect to Mr Ward. I'll make sure to tell all my coworkers that are fans of different schools that the best play by play announcer was John Ward and hes calling the games in heaven now.

Event will be streamed live on utsports.com and their Facebook pages. Good for all fans.

Back in the day when I was growing up we only had 1 maybe 2 games on TV (if we were lucky). On Saturday, even though I am an Alabama fan we listened to John Ward since we could not pick up Bama games where we lived. I could see the game through his voice. He was an iconic caller of the greatest game on earth. Even when we started getting to see the Bama/UT game on TV my dad would always listen to the radio call instead of the TV announcers...he said you just cant hear on TV the way John Ward calls the game on radio. Not only did UT lose a good man, college sports did as well.

My son has the VHS tape and we watched recently, it's excellent. Remember taking my mother to his last show at Centennial Park in Nashville before Vanderbilt football game. Band and cheerleaders were also there along with huge crowd, lots of good memories.
