Based off of Venmo memo lines? Lmao, come on man.

I mean if someone is gonna be canceled for an joke that landed wrong-wouldn't private joke Venmo transactions also be included in that realm?

I hate how sensitive and hair trigger people have become-but in the end if you're gonna punish one person for doing/saying something naughty then you gotta punish everybody who does the same thing.

Let's see if they investigate "Richard Roaten". That should tell the tale. And how much $ was sent? The thing that raises ??? is the Usc-Ucla reference. As we know, Money talks, and Okie will spend it to protect their investment.

Richard Roaten is Landon Roaten an O-lineman at WSU. Looks like a little friendly wager between team mates. Also bet on FIFA game, allegedly.

Let’s just say that he was joking around with putting “Sports Gambling” in the memo line (and he probably was.) How stupid do you have to be to be a college athlete and do that given the climate the last couple of years? I’ll answer that. Dumber than a sack of hammers.

the article didn't state how much money was involved. to me that would make a bit of a difference.

was it friendly betting, 5 bucks on who wins the UCLA USC game tonight, type of thing between two friends.

or was it a couple hundred, or more, to some bookie?

Between friends I usually will just put "For services rendered", even though I could have said what it was actually for. I find it funny, and usually my friends do too.

Agreed. I’m pretty sure though that he now realizes just how dumb it was. I’m sure he didn’t think it would start a full blown investigation.

While I agree from a common sense standpoint that you are correct, in the end there has to be some sort of punishment involved

Robbing a bank of a dollar is still gonna get you prison time.

How many teams got penalized by the NCAA in the past for "a recruit getting an extra cream cheese for his bagel" or something trivial.

Good luck getting an answer of how much was involved anyway-with proof anyway. I'm sure they will say it was $5. Could it have been hundreds? Doubtful but possible.

Was either Mateer or the other player ever recruited by USC or UCLA? You could make the argument that insider information could have been known, etc

A suspension for a game or two is where this ends if I had to guess.
