John Kelly has been outperforming formal Vol Hurd

That's my point, he didn't. You have to give credit to Jelly and Kamara against that defense. They had no problems with a top defense. My point, against Ohio Hurd did squat. Against good or bad defenses Kamara and Jelly seem fine. Maybe ol didn't suck after all. Who wouldn't want to play rb for Tn? I know a so called te that wouldn't.

I give them credit for having a good game, but they're not a top defense. Texas A&M is 82nd in the country vs the run.

It doesn't matter! Don't you know that we have to recruit 4* & 5* players, no matter what? If you get a 3*, then you obviously don't know what you are doing. Don't you realize that successful programs like Boise State and Washington always recruit 5* players? Recruiting 3* players or walk on's and developing them is a crazy way to run a program. Who does that?

Hmmmm...so tell me, how many national championships does Boise State and Washington have?

Neither is ohio or va tech. So you're arguing Hurd didn t have a chance to prove himself versus crappy defenses? Because he's had plenty of chances. Could have had more but he quit. Like I said, I'll never forget the quit.

Huh? Hurd didn't play against them and I didn't really remember Kelly lighting them up.

I don't get what is so hard to understand. Alabama, Florida and Va Tech are clearly the best defenses we've played. That's not really a defense of Hurd; just a statement of the fact that rushing yardage was harder to come by early in the year.

Hurd averaged 3.9 yards per carry vs Appalachian St and 4.1 yards per carry vs Ohio... but it was completely the offensive lines fault, right?

Give it a rest OP. Hurd did a lot for Tennessee. He also played much harder teams than our soft November schedule.

He did do a lot while at UT but it's evident Kamara should have been getting more carries. I blame BJ for all the drama.

Kelly is at full speed after only a few steps

I really like his running style. Not a knock on Hurd, but you really notice the difference in how JK and Kamara set up the blocking and hit the creases.

App State is 14th in the nation against the run. Ohio is 17th.

Have a nice day

Yeah, against some real powerhouses like Texas State, Gardner-Webb, Buffalo, Old Dominion, Akron and Idaho. Lol.

No idea what their schedule is. I'm sure there are some weaklings in there. Still don't think I'm going out on a limb here. The defenses on the front of the schedule were mostly better than what we've faced the last 3 weeks.

This system is built for a shorter quick running back that can hit the holes fast.

Not a big bruising back.

Kelly fits this system perfectly.

I think he will be very special the next few years.

Gw racked up rushing yards versus them. Averaged 5 yards a carry. Are we honestly arguing what a quitter couldn't do. Dude quit, who cares. He could have shown us he didn't suck balls if he had not quit. But he quit, he's a damn wr or te now or whatever he says he is. I like to label him the quit and future potential ufa.

Not to mention App state just lost to Troy. That win just keeps looking worse. Especially since it took a miracle play to beat them.

Troy is 8-1 and ranked in the top 25. Their only loss was a close one against Clemson.

I'm really not trying to oversell these mid majors, but it's not 1995 anymore. These aren't 1AA teams. They can play a little.

What is amazing is that you think I'm defending Hurd's actions. I haven't done it once.

All I've said is that it's hard to compare Kelly to Hurd because the competition has been different.

Competition different? Va tech's run d sucks. Hurd didn't crack the century Mark. Look anyone trying to say hurd had it rougher then it's the same as defending him. Pretty obvious our rbs are far superior than hurd. No break away speed, no heart, he quit. Need I go on?

I've noticed something about Kelly's play style. He's a gifted hard nosed runner that never gives up. He's got all the traits to be one of the best backs in the future of the SEC. The team thinks highly of him and you can tell the O-line really tries to make holes for him to run through. These are the types of players that Butch needs more of. One that will bring positive energy around your teammates and whom won't quit on the HC under any circumstance. I also find it quite interesting that Kelly and Kamara can run behind this O-Line but Hurd couldn't. Kelly who was only a 3* in high school has outperformed 5* Hurd against lesser opponents. Now we know who the actual better RB is. We're extremely lucky to have gotten Kelly. He's going to be fun to watch the next several years.

I love Kelly and Kamara and who knows how long Hurd gave less than full effort. You can really only compare backs playing in the same game. Hurd has a lot of yards at UT for a reason.

Yeah, which is why Jones stuck with him for so long. Hard to bench a guy who had so much success. Reason why I blame Hurd and not Jones. You can't expect the hc to know that your star tb is half assing it. Unprecedented and will never be duplicated. Only Saban would handle this season better.

Yes... Competition was a little different.

Va Tech is ranked 40th in run defense. SC, Kentucky and TAM are all 80 or worse. 40 is less than 80.

That's a really good question that we'll never know the answer to. We know when he quit, but when did he stop caring? The whole situation just sucks.
