John Kelly Declares for NFL Draft

Best of luck to the young man, with an offensive line as porous as ours it’s no wonder.

Huge mistake IMO. Phenomenal talent that would've been taken early if he had a year running behind be a decent line.

I think he will be good in the league but he likely won't get drafted early.

I agree! I think he just hurt his overall money. But of course he might get hurt next year. I wish him the very best and hope he is rookie of the year. However, I would be totally shocked if this happens.

Maybe after the Titans release Murray, he'll be available in the 3rd or 4th round. He'd be great along side Henry. Best of luck to him. He has nothing to prove. And at that position you only have so many years in your prime. Can't fault him for leaving.

That's how people who don't know anything think. Tape is the most important thing that matters. And Alvin's tape was SPECTACULAR.

That's why I had him ranked as the #1 RB in the 2017 throughout the entire process. Butch's misuse or the lack of snaps meant nothing to me because whenever Alvin got a chance in 2016 he balled out.

Go away

Per Rotoworld....

NFL Draft | Vols RB John Kelly to declare for NFL Draft - Rotoworld.com

Tennessee junior RB John Kelly will declare for the 2018 NFL Draft.

This is an unfortunate turn of events for new Vols HC Jeremy Pruitt. We'd heard Kelly was leaning towards declaring earlier in the campaign, though we thought he might have a change of heart due to a misdemeanor marijuana possession citation in October and a poor second half as Tennessee's offense cratered amid all the Butch Jones drama. The 5-foot-9, 212-pound Kelly isn't a burner, which will hurt his draft positioning, but he is extremely tough and versatile. Kelly was a broken tackle machine at Tennessee who provided value in the passing game. He finished with 778 yards rushing and nine touchdowns and a 37-299-0 receiving line in 2017 after stepping into the RB1 role. Kelly's stock is heavily dependent on his testing numbers and interviews. Amid a deep RB class, he looks like a Day 3 pick that could potentially slip out of the draft altogether if his tests are poor. Ty Chandler figures to take over as Tennessee's starting RB next fall, though he'll be pushed by Carlin Fils-aime

He won't break tackles in the NFL like he did here and isn't near as complete as Kamara. I absolutely love Kelly but it wouldn't have hurt him to finish in Knoxville.

I don't blame him for leaving honestly. Why stay another year and take a seasons worth of shots to the dome for free? I don't think his draft stock would change much if he stayed, not like he would become a different kind of running back in one season. If anything it might be for the best entering the league with less miles on his body so to speak.

sadly D4H is right... AK was drafted where he was because of resume or better said lack thereof.

Until the last year when hurd flat quit there was no doubt that he was a better RB than AK. AK is much more than a RB. He is the second coming of Marshall Faulk. In the NFL he is second fiddle behind Ingram just like he was to Hurd here. He just so happens to be in an offense that's tailor made for what he can do.

What he is doing in NO has been done by a RB before every year for the last decade. Reggie Bush, Darren Sproles, Pierre Thomas and Mark Ingram.. all of those guys started at second fiddle and eventually took over as the bellcow.

NO has always been a team where tweeners on offense can step out and show their stuff because Sean Payton and Drew Brees give no -ucks. They are gonna give the ball to whoever can get it done. Sounds like common sense but its rarer than u think in a league of egos.

Jimmy Graham was a perennial Pro Bowler in NO went to Seattle and he is just an ok receiving TE. Marques Colston never finished out a full season in the NFL but you know his name because he played in NO. He plays somewhere else he is a WR/TE tweener. NO is the team where tweeners go to get big free agent contracts.

AK is not a tweener. But he has a skill set that needs tape for an OC to take advantage of. NO is the team where they needed no tape because that's what they do. The one thing I can say unequivocally that CBJ and his staff did right was handling AK. If people actually look at stats after hurd left and AK was the main guy he did OK it was Kelly that was showing out.

Yeah NO has a great scouting department and with coach SP calling plays wouldn't surprise me if Baker Mayfield slips he ends up in NO learning behind Brees until he retires

Kelly will be fine in the NFL will have a great career! Will be drafted 2nd-4th won't go undrafted....Cannot wait to view this thread during the NFL season next year

Late 5th to early 7th imo. Hes a really tough runner that lacks break away speed and hasnt shown much in the passing game (doesnt mean he isnt capable)

No need to bash me, just calling it like I see it.

Agreed. Hopefully with some good NFL coaching,he will surprise.

1 - Chandler
2 - Fils-Aime
3 - Jordan
4 - Coleman
5 - Banks
? - Grant

1. Chandler
2. Banks/ Coleman
3. Jordan

Fils-Aime moves to Slot or CB. Pruitt like bigger backs!

Coleman will get more of a chance because of his size or will be moved to blocking [full or H-back] back

Ok so Kelly declared -- what other Vols will get drafted this coming draft ?

People forget that Kamara was the 5th Overall RB picked in last years draft. And he was in the 3rd round.

We are better off stating what his overall will be? Is JK a top 5 RB in this draft? I'm not sure. I think he's definitely a top 15 though.

Last draft, the NFL drafted 27 RBs (3 FB) The average before that was around 21 RB/FB

Honestly, I think Chandler and Fils-aime are going to be a lot better anyways... I know, I know, not gonna be the preferred comment here and I wish Kelly luck.. but i don't see all the supposed talent that I read about him here. I think he would of been smarter to stay but who knows, maybe Pruitt said he should just go (for whatever reason).

Best of luck to John Kelly in the NFL. Time for our RB's that were his back ups to step up and have a very good year in 2018.
