Whoever replaces him better be a clear improvement, because people will look back and wonder why Jancek had to go.

Whether good or not. Showing his character.

EDIT: IMO, bad. I would hope he'd rise above that as I'm sure Butch will.

Kinda a sad way to go away. CBJ gave him an out by saying it was mutual. If Jancek had stuck to his nice, classy posts thanking the fans and players, he'd look a lot less pathetic. Strange.

We were successful stopping 4th downs 25% of the time is what I read in another thread today.

Not saying that justifies the change but it's certainly a "WUT???" kinda stat, if true.

I would like to have been a fly on the wall for that meeting.

Hopefully all you wonderful fans that use Twitter showed him some love

We were ranked 125th in the nation on 4th down defense.

Butch's decision making has improving immensely both as a leader and coach. All I can say is I'm felling good about Big Orange football. Keep on rolling Butch.

Some "People"...are going to do that no matter what. Butch knows this. I'm only going to speak of what I know and that is I like the 'big boy' moves Butch is making in these staff changes. Why the changes are happening...I have no real idea and I imagine there's only a few on this board that do know.

The rest will be speculation. It's what we do best. :clapping:

Jancek was kind of like Arian Foster this year. Foster honestly didn't fumble that much, but when he did it cost us the game and that's why he's remembered as fumblin' Foster. Kind of like our defense did pretty well overall, except early in the season the defense had some pretty bad second half melt downs. I think UF was 5/5 on 4th downs against us? If we got ONE of those stops, we beat them.

I'm sure the long-standing friendship between two coaches who live moved college to college, same neighborhood, same church, sons best friends, etc....has been trumped by the $donors$ who have reminded CBJ often of what his new "friends" expectations are.

The SEC is big-boy territory and although it may have taken CBJ some time to tell the dog: Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore, he seems to be realizing that there may have been room in the MAC/Big East for friendship but not on the SEC level.

Now, if the new DC can help CBJ understand the nuances of calling time out on opponent's 4th down!

First post so maybe it won't get picked apart to bad. I'm like some on here that think our defense was fine. I actually thought that throughout the season they made the best progress. I know someone will throw up the 4th down stat on me but the fact is if the offense sustains drives and actually puts some points on the board in the second half in those games it doesn't matter how many 4th down conversions they get. When a defense gets tired from being on the field all second half crap like that happens just look at alabama when we played them. Their offense couldn't do nothing and we gave them a game cause their defense wore late in the game. I honestly think we really shouldn't have been worried about the defensive side of the ball but more the offensive side because next year our 8 play play book will get destroyed. I also think now even with all of the talent returning next year this will set us back and I can already hear it now if we lose a game or a couple the excuse will be... Well it's a new defense it will be more improved next year... I am like so many on here I'm tired of hearing about how will be better next year. I just think we let a good coach go and we will get someone that is going to be not much better or worse. With that said just my opinion and GO VOLS.

What I heard (reliable source, not "insider"):

Meeting got heated when JJ said offense needed to run clock to help defense. He wanted to blame DeBord. Most realize that DeBord was just the relay for Jones and it pi$$ed him off.

(paraphrasing):

CBJ: "You handle the defense and let others worry about offense"

JJ: "Maybe we should just agree to go our separate ways."

CBJ: "Well, it's mutually agreed!"

Whether it's true or not, I hate the hurry up offense

Why the hell should Tennessee settle for John Jancek?

I don't think we should settle for him. I just believe it was a bad move going into next year when we got a great chance of being a great football team. I think this gives butch and the defense an out to underachieve yet again like they did this year. This team should have been a 1 lose team at the most this year. The coaches and players just couldn't finish teams off when they needed to. We had talent and still got talent to play and beat anybody

Best thing that's ever happened to Jancek. He could never have been this good a DC if he was actually Butch's DC. :)

I agree with you. I have read nothing but good things ( basically ) about JJ. But, some on this board have repeatedly mocked Butch for the "best staff in America" comment since he started. Now that Butch has decided the staff needs upgraded, some people are questioning Butch's loyalty or judgement. Butch is in charge. Without question, he believes we need to be better on defense. End of story.

Time to put Jancek behind us, wish him luck, and thank him for his effort and hard work. Now, bring on the new guy and buckle up.

You and your "source" have no clue what happened.
