Oh just noticed OP is CodyG. This guy has sources.

Did your cousin have a sleeper over with Currie?

And we've been doing so well with those search firms. I'll take it to mean that Currie has some confidence in the in house evaluators (like Fulmer and Manning) than he does in the outhouse bunch.

This all day and twice on Sunday

I heard from a big wig of a local construction company that we offered Gruden 10 million and he declined. Then we offered him 12 million and he declined that too.

Wouldn't pay a lot of attention there. Contractors seem to do more gossiping than building.

Lol...

A search firm isn't hired to give the AD a list of coaches to consider for a job, they are hired to contact the coach and or agent without it being a direct contact with the AD in case the coach turns down the job offer, and do the leg work of the background checks. The same thing happens when a private company hires an executive search firm.

I am hearing (not an insider, just happen to know a couple ex players from my college days) that Currie has asked Gruden not to public announce he has turned down the job or isn’t coming. Currie wants to hire a coach and have them come in and have it appear as though he never reached out to Jon so UT doesn’t look like it did in 2012.

...which is what happens in literally every coaching search.

I was cleaning Casey’s pool and overheard him talking to Rick. He said that Gruden reached out to the Iceman for tips on how to beat Alabama. Take it for what it’s worth, but Gruden and Clausen are coming to rebuild Tennessee football.

My confidence level is beginning to fall on Gruden!

Mine as well. I feel Currie has a good college coach lined up for the job. Which wouldnt bother me in the slightest as long as its a big time hire.

If Currie did what he could and Gruden turned us down, then I dont have a problem with that.

Your sources don’t have the first clue about what’s going on, and neither do you or me or 99.9% of everyone who posts here.

Exactly. All this boiler room gossip crap is worthless. In so many words, Currie told everyone that silly tripe like this was coming and to pay it no mind. Amazing that these attention seekers aren't smart enough to listen to what the man said before throwing out this stupidty

Currie better get this hire correct. TN does NOT want an up and coming or an assistant coach. What they want sir is one that has a proven winning record on their resume and one who can WIN in the SEC. It's that plain and simple...

This constant fascination with search firms that crops up from time to time makes me believe we have a few people here on VN in that business. I've used them and bypassed them through the years depending on the time I had to make a hiring decision. The problem with hiring search firms is you basically get to choose only from the people in their portfolio who pay the search firms to be there. Their candidates may not be the best person for the job available, just the best people available in their catalog.
