John Currie of K State Hired as AD

So saying, "good basketball coach evaluators make bad hires all the time. Look at this bad basketball evaluator who hired several bad coaches, as an example!" doesn't hold much weight or give me much hope for Currie hiring a basketball coach.

Why are you putting quotes there? I never said that. Do you even fake reading before responding? :)

Dickey only cared about one sport. If a guy that runs our basketball program into the ground is your shining example of a good AD, I can see why you're impressed with Currie.

Never said I was impressed...think it's a good hire. I'm prepared to be impressed. The fact that you think Dickey was a bad AD make me glad we're polar opposite on this. :)

For anyone interested, 104.5 Nashville will be discussing this with Hyams during his 7 am CST spot. May be interesting to hear whether he's walking back any of his earlier comments as he's usually not one to stand alone and lob rotten tomatoes.

he is the guy that gave us kippen..so now we reward him for that

the Haslam brothers should stick to selling watered down gas and keep the poor from getting health care. leave the Tennessee program alone. they can not run there own team. the Browns are the worst in the NFL

Welcome to VN!

I noticed two things about you... you are new and your choice of "forgiven" is interesting.

I was curious how or why you decided "forgiven"? (serious question btw)

Is Currie a good basketball evaluator? It appears other than women's basketball which is "trending upward" iirc were the words used, all other sports have slowly gone down. Basketball went down after Martin left and Snyder had a bad year last year.

Now do not get me wrong, I am not in the 'anti Currie' camp, but I have gone back and forth trying to figure out if I think this was a good hire base on what we know of Currie at this time. Obviously with any hire they could be better or worse than you thought at time of hire.

all I an say is that Curie has some baggage and I hope he doesn't bring it to UT

I guess anyone hired would have had some "baggage". I think one of the things that I'm most concerned about is his "people skills".

It's my understanding he left some people at Tennessee with a "bad taste in thier mouths" when he was here before.

It seems there are a lot of K-State fans happy he's gone. How big of a deal is that?

I've read reports that some coaches at K-State were unhappy with him. Making the team Ride a bus 4-5 hours to an opponent instead of a plane to save money. Dropping or not starting the Equestrian program (I don't remember which) knowing that a coaches daughter was interested in it, think it was Snyder? And scheduling tougher football games instead of cupcakes against the coaches (Snyder again) wishes.

I have zero issue with any of those, I personally think he was right. But, why is everyone so mad? I've read he's a micromanager. Did he do any or all of this without discussing it with anyone (coaches), just did it and when questioned about it said "tough sht " deal with it? Or, are the K-State coaches and fans, and the Tennessee people that don't like him just a bunch of crybabies and he's totally in the right?

Lol.

The only thing that concerns me is the recruiting restriction rumors.

There's no reason that you have to like your boss to be successful.

Good at finances and mediocre at hiring, shouldn't see much of a change from Hart. Just leave the recruiting to those who have already built a reputation for walking the line without crossing it.

That was another thing that concerned me too, but I didn't want to keep rambling anymore than I already had and I couldn't remember the details or where I read it.

even people on drugs would have better judgement than that. she also split the fan base.not a very good start.

To be fair, the fan base was already split. She just didn't unite them (us) like I was hoping. But, to be fair again, she just got started.

The Kansas State reporter.
Just said he's so obsessed with staying in the white, he avoids the gray that all the best recruiters walk in, without crossing the line.

Maybe it was exaggerated or he will tone it down in the SEC. Hoping for the best.

hiring the guy that gave us Kiffin, after firing one of the best coach in school history. how smart can she be. Fulmer won the SEC east the year be for your new AD kicked of this mess we have . how has that worked out for us. The real rats are the Haslem brothers ..they put this ding bat in the job. they can not run there own team ,the Browns are the worst in the NFL . they should stick to what they do best. selling watered down gas, cheating trucking trucking firms, and keeping the poor from getting health care. hands of the Tennessee program .they have done plenty of damage for 9 years now.

Lol, did you actually cut and paste this then add to it, from the two other threads?

I don't think he "gave us" Kiffin, doesn't matter anyway, at the time it seemed like a good hire.

Seems you're still a little upset Phil was fired. Let it go.

Think I already commented on the rest of this, twice.

i was just pointing out that the new AD played a big part in giving the program a lot of problems we have had over the last 8 years. yes i did copy some of the comments on the Haslam brothers. kiffin was ran out of the NFL on a rail. he had never been a head coach in collage when hired. how could that hire have looked good..replacing a head coach is like Obama care , you need to have a better replacement be for repeal. we did not do that. we repeal first..then the program is stuck. we are then forced to pick from just the people that will take the job quickly. some want Jones fired ...if that is what is needed a better replacement should be found first ... not fired and then a mad scramble , then it comes down to who will take the job in the next 2 weeks.

No offense dude, and I get your general point, it's sound. But your example of Obamacare is awful....anything would be better. Just sayin.

the way people rant about the head coach you would think it was Obama care. that is why i used it as a example..lola ..lola

I keep seeing Davenport wanted an AD with P5 experience? Why? She was just hired as Chancellor with zero P5 experience.

Why does she think she can run the entire university without P5 experience yet says this about the AD.

Very hypocritical.

What does P5 experience have to do with the Chancellor's role?

P5 is relevant to athletics. Chancellors deal primarily with academics. She wanted an Athletic Director with P5 experience. She isn't the AD.

I don't know that it's a wonderful hire, but for God's sake, at least be logical in your criticism.

The Haslem brothers are...that is the problem

Neither of the Haslem brothers are that vested in UT. Their father is.
i may of missed this in civics class , but is he not in charge of all state schools. i get your general point. it is set up to be run by a board of trustees. in fact i do not think that is true. it is ran by the people bringing in the most money. I.E. the Haslem clan . there is nothing wrong with that. the people putting in tons of money should have a lot of control. what i do not like about the Haslems is playing with the football team. they do not know what they are doing. look at there own team as a example. the Browns. the worst in the NFL.
