Ut just said they would rather have someone that can fund-raise for the sports over getting an AD that would make them better and let their success be its own fund-raiser.

Too bad for the chancellor an other higher up academics they forgot that people qill quickly get tired of mediocre and then the big money boosters will write smaller and smaller checks to match the attendance and records of our sports teams.

abysmal - but I have come to expect lackluster leadership from our big $$$ boosters. we will be stuck in athletics purgatory for another 5 or so years.

Two comments.

I bought into the Jumper conspiracy in 2016, especially after the OU game. Watching him play down the stretch in 2017 - I get it. He played at his genetic ceiling and a little beyond. Good effort and a pleasant surprise.

As for AD pick - If Currie wanted to throw an olive branch to the fans, right out of the gate, he'd get the Lady Vols thing back. I never heard a convincing argument on why that had to go. I don't buy the "branding" thing. Seemed trivial and stupid to nix it.

Hubbs in response to Fulmer's feelings in reference to Currie's possible role in his firing.

"Yes, that will be a tough fence to mend. Fulmer spoke tonight at a fund raising event in Chattanooga. He was scheduled to meet the media before the event but cancelled doing the media stuff. Don't think he's ready to talk about things."

Will be interesting to see where this hire goes. Why interview anyone else when you had this ass clown in the pocket? Oh yeah, state requirements. Perhaps the next hire will be better than this hatchet man. My advice to anyone at UT would be to watch your back.

One things for sure, the UTK athletic dept should never be accused of lack of institutional control, now getting someone to take the blame down the road that may be a different story.

Glad they hired someone...although I don't know what is so impressive about Kansas St. athletics that you say "man....we gotta get THAT guy".

The only people I saw messing with him was VN. I'm not sure he was ever seriously considered. LWS comes in and tells you guys what you wanted to hear and it becomes fact. Then he tells you Philmer and it becomes fact. We knew before Christmas that Davenport was making the hire. Why is anyone surprised? A lot of you guys should look gullible up in the dictionary...... Hint, it isn't really a word.
