John Currie of K State Hired as AD

He graduated from the University of Tennessee. He worked in UT athletics for years.

How can people be liking this post?

Because they wanted Blackburn and weren't going to be happy with anyone else.

Ironic how some of those that are so upset about it not being Blackburn, are the same ones telling others, by being optimistic about this season is just setting themselves up for disappointment, and they just can't do that and don't understand it.

This was the next best thing after Blackburn.

He works well with money, he has deep UT ties, and he's been an AD at a power 5 school for eight years. I think this was a pretty solid hire. We will see how it works.

How is it the next best thing to Blackburn then?

Both have ties to Hamilton...so that is a wash. In Curries defense though. He was here before Hamilton.

Works well with money - Both probably check that box

Has deep UT ties - Curries are deeper, at least from a working standpoint. He was here for 12 years before going to K-State.

Has been an AD at a Power 5 school - Blackburn doesn't even scratch that on his resume...much less the fact that he has been a successful AD at a Power 5 school.

I was in for the Blackburn hire, but IMO this is a better hire.

He worked here for 15 years and has a degree here.

So he's not Blackburn but he's more UT than anyone else on the board.

Bingo. Time will tell, but that checks the boxes most have called for; Tennessee ties and respect for Tennessee tradition. And if it checks the ones Davenport had, this might be the real win win.

I wanna be mad. I wanna say crazy or irrational things.

Should I?

I don't keep up with other AD's that much.

Inform me, Volnation.....

Yeah...I've been really unreasonable on this.

No. Not at all unreasonable.

Only Tennessee eats their own like this. So sorry Mr. Blackburn....You were to obvious of a choice apparently.

We'll never be any different.

Welcome Mr. Currie, good luck....You'll need it.

Currie is one of our own too. Was here for twelve years.

Yep...The manure-spreader is turned all the way to 10.

Nothing need be said at all about this reasonable remark

That is exactly what we deserve.

In reference to the comment that K-Sate should hire Blackburn.

If he is like Hamilton and appreciates a good MAC coach he'll sign Butch to a lifetime contract tomorrow.
I can't wait! This is going to be absolutely underwhelming.

Interesting that you omit that Currie was here before Hamilton got here and that Blackburn is a Hamilton guy too. Bottom line...both were employed by UT prior to Hamilton. Both were employed by UT after the Hamilton hire. If you label one, you label both. If you drop the label and go based off of resume. Currie wins.

The guy is going to have major decisions to make in the next year or two in regards to all major sports. I'll wait and see what he does in regards to CBJ and that women's basketball 'coach' before giving an opinion on whether or not this was a good hire. If he comes in and fires Warlick I'd give him an A+ right off the bat.

Haven't seen it posted anywhere, but has anyone heard what Peyton and/or Haslam think about this? I'm sure neither would say anything negative, but would be curious what they do say.

Don't know the answer to your question but IMHO, Jimmy Haslam needs to focus on the upcoming NFL combine and making sure that his Harvard wunderkinds don't screw the pooch in this year's draft.

I was politely corrected about Currie being here prior to Hamilton, and apologized for being misinformed. You may feel free to judge on resume if you like....I'll base it off of those that know them both. Thanks.

Oh...I stand by the rest.
