John Currie of K State Hired as AD

Currie signed a contract extension last April which would have had him at K State through 2022. What are the financial responsibilities for which UT would be responsible? Is there a buyout or anything as with hiring another school's coach?

Within the walls of UT I don't believe this hire will be well received. I don't know what kind of job he will do. My hope is he will do great things. Some of his rep while here was unfair because most of the time the dirty work falls to the number 2 guy. number 1 may give the order but its number 2 who carries it out. However he seemed to enjoy it and rubbed it in a few faces when he exited for K State. Who knows? The guy may have changed. Most of us do as we get older. But it appears Frank Snyder isn't losing any sleep over it. Funny thought..Blackburn to K State.

I DID like everything I heard from Blackburn and read about Blackburn.

I HOPE I will like everything Currie has to say and everything I have read about him in a few years. Wonder if he will find a spot for Fulmer which I think Blackburn would have.

Gonna be fun win Blackburn ends up at Arkansas or replaces Cunningham at UNC and makes UT look dumber than they already do. I don't get it. Blackburn has done everything he thought he had to do to get this job. It's nonsense. By the time he is successful at a P5 school (as he apparently has to be to get UT job, he will be a tougher get and may be so ticked he wont come to UT.

How is that fun? You could just as easily argue that Currie did everything he thought he had to do to get this job as well. He put a better resume on paper than Blackburn, plain and simple.

To say that you would have to be pulling against Tennessee. Don't need you, go elsewhere and be a negagator or negabammer etc

Maybe he was making a prediction based on what Butch has accomplished so far during his time at UT? What has he shown you to make you think he will manage to win more than 8 games during the regular season on 2017?

All I know is that Currie rubbed a lot of people wrong when he was here. Now, I'm trying to figure out if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

Spoke to one of my contacts at OU that worked for him at Kansas State. His exact quote:

"Damn good hire by UT."

To me there are other factors besides resume and of course this is my opinion. So in the spirit of what ifs. Lets say Texas came calling. Currie would be on the next plane. Blackburn would not. That's the difference in "UT guys"

Good!! Fire their asses. Bring in new blood that wants to win and, knows how to do it.

Welcome back Mr. Currie. This is your 15 minutes in the biggest and brightest spotlight of your life. Good luck and make us all proud!

You literally have nothing to backup this claim.

One thing I do like and consider a good thing. He isn't afraid to drop the hammer!

From what I read, they will be working together until August. Hart will be passing the baton, so to speak.

Hart is officially out June 30. He has limited authority now, so the transition will be swift and Hart will be encouraged to enjoy an even earlier retirement.

You didn't catch the sarcasm, did you?
As for putting together a better resume, could it be because Blackburn waited under presumption he would get job after Hamilton, whereas he could have left long ago and established a better resume if not misled into thinking he would be rewarded for staying so long and being groomed?

From Knoxvile Rag:

He, Currie, was promoted to associate athletics director for development at UT in 2002. At UT, Currie managed the coaching search that resulted in the hiring of Bruce Pearl in 2005. He also helped lead the search for UT baseball coach Todd Raleigh and football coach Lane Kiffin.

Hmmm - at least I loved ONE of those hires!!
