U Tennessee keeps showing other schools to do the opposite of what they do. UT can't get out of its own way. We can expect Butch to get an extension with a $40 mil buyout.

Based off what? Your extensive research on Currie?

He's not Fulmer or Blackburn but he does have Tn ties. This might be just be a good thing. When does he start?

Now it's time to move on to WR coach.

I'm not arguing the money but would like to know he can hire the best choice for the job not another diamond in the rough guy.

Understandable. It seems all the K State fans that dislike him are because he ran off Frank Martin and replaced him with Bruce Weber. They commend his ability to raise money and upgrade facilities, but mentioned that he is stubborn and will stick with a coach longer then he should.

So in my opinion it seems they are all upset over a single basketball hire.

Rose through the ranks under Mike Hamilton was enough for me....
I'm open to giving him a shot, but such an underwhelming hire...
Anyone know of any great hires he was involved with?

John Currie of Kansas State has been hired as Tennessee's AD. He has a masters from Tennessee and was here under Hamilton. Per Jimmy Hyams.

"BREAKING NEWS: Source: John Currie of Kansas State has been hired as Tennessee's new athletic director. Currie worked at UT as assistant athletic director from 1997-2008 when he took the job as AD at Kansas State. He turns 47 on April 1." -- Hyams

It could have been worse.

Not much good comes out of Kansas.

Only 2 things come out of Kansas....amazing how Hollywood has changed their PC culture over the past 20 years.

We hire a guy that has had tremendous success at K-State and has ties to Tennessee, yet we still have fans complaining??? I wouldn't have expected anything less from UT fans. Blackburn would have been great but Currie is great, if not better. I'm happy with this hire.

And yet everything you post infact is a joke.

You attack people because they don't do backflips for every person hired by UT.

You call it attack. I do react to those who seldom have anything positive to say about the University I attended and where my father, brother, and son have lettered.

Mistakes happen but to continually go back to the same well and expect different results is not something I want to see if Jones is let go in a yr or 2

Lot of whining and crying in here....

IMHO it COULD have been a lot worse. I know its not David Blackburn but this guy seems to have done a real nice job, plus he graduated from UT.

I'm optimistic to be honest

Well, no matter anyone's thoughts, it's done. Let's just go ahead and hire Beard and strap in for the ride.

From reading about this guys hires at Kansas St be careful what you wish for. We can do alot worse than Butch.

When this athletic director job came open, I thought Currie and Blackburn would be the two top names for the job since both worked at UT and Kansas State has had a solid athletic program with Snyder and Weber both having a lot of success there.

Currie will do well here.
