John Currie should still be fired for allowing the University of Tennessee to even consider a coaching candidate like this. Never thought I would say this, but I'm actually ashamed of my university right now. This entire situation reflects unbelievably poorly on the administration, which to me, is a fireable offense.

Also, to add insult to injury, this entire debacle is already having very negative impacts on recruiting.

Currie should be held accountable for even having Schiano as a viable candidate.. you fire butch to unify the fan base.. congrats, you unified us in our common belief that Schiano is bad for our program

how the hell did Schiano make a list? let alone a short list?

the court documents were still sealed with OSU hired him, but Currie has no excuse, he knows.

This really is an unbelievable mess.

No idea who pulled this off, but that's pretty clever.

Let's face it Currie was hired over Blackburn and Fulmer because he is a YES man and does what the big money boosters tell him too. Both Blackburn and Fulmer bleed orange and would do whatever it takes to bring in the best coach.

It also sounds as if most of the coaches Currie approached contacted the Kansas State coach who told them not to work for Currie. Currie must go and his boss, Beverly Davenport most tag along with him as well.

If hiring Coach S and the PR nightmare which would certainly follow, I think it’s time to consider sending John packing. I’m sure there are plenty of VFLs that will gladly send a check...

Currie should be fired tomorrow and either Fulmer or Blackburn need to be hired as our AD.

Agree. We need to hire more Tennessee people that have known and loved the Vols for a long time. Doug Matthews said as much this morning. Said the best way to avoid being hired at UT was to have the fact you graduated from UT on your resume.

I find it quite ridiculous that VolNation message board posters did better due diligence on Schiano than the freaking Athletic Department at the University of Tennessee that is spending in the tens of millions of dollars on a hire.

Stepping in **** is what UT does best and they really stepped in a huge pile of it this time.

Fire Davenport and Currie and start all over.

Ignorant is right! To consider a man like this for the job if true is hard to believe. Even if the story is untrue and he knew nothing of what Sandusky did many can and will use it against us in recruiting. Parents will wonder as he approaches them to ask their kid to play for him. Always will be doubt. Currie knew this and still went for it. Hard to think we could get lower than we were but we did. Thanks Currie!

Currie's friendship with this man explains it all. Against better judgement he chose to help a friend out and damage our program.

Unfortunately - no matter who comes to the podium tomorrow or Tuesday - the way this has played out has created a PR disaster and perhaps maybe worse.

1. If John Gruden or anyone else not named Schiano ... is going to be selected and will be walking to the podium Monday or Tuesday then Mr. Currey needs to immediately come out and say we are still in the midst of the process and until you hear from me, no one should be considered as having been offered the position.

I truly feel that Mr. Schiano is being needlessly drug through the mud and his name tarnished as part of a diversionary tactic or plan, but unfortunately that strategy has backfired and Currey needs to jump on this quickly.

2. I honestly don't think anyone making $1.2 million a year is going to intentionally sabotage their career and reputation by hiring the least likely of all the candidates. No one in his position and pay grade can "miss" that badly. There has to be vetting - there has to be research - we, like Florida would want to hire an offensive mind ... to right the ship,
so Schiano simply is not a viable candidate for multiple reasons and the vetting should have caused him to be the first name removed from consideration ( and maybe it did )

3. Currie can still roll in with someone better and be considered a hero -- but this specific hoax has created unforeseen fallout and needs to be shut down immediately, just plug in Mullins or someone of that ilk instead of Schiano and it can still be dramatic and exciting.

Let's start cleaning this up.

Thanks,

C'mon, maybe it's all just internet lies and click bait. We're already the laughingstock, maybe news outlets are going even further on it to get clicks. (Least I hope so.)

Currie’s silence on this whole issue is completely deafening. While he has confirmed nothing I’ve never seen a more classic need for damage control ever!

Even considering this hire and talking to Schiano has to be the most tone deaf moment in recent history at the University of Tennessee

I believe this and would support.
