John Adams

Adams is an old school journalist, who's neither the weak willed sunshine pumper like a Gribble who says nice things to maintain his access to the coaches, nor the anonymous blogger who says incendiary things from the comfort of his keyboard.

Adams gives you his take, and it's always informed. It may not always be positive, but that's honest writing. I'd rather read Adams on his worst day than any of the other KNS staff on their best.

Wrong...I take it you were not around when the KNS had great sports journalists. Adams doesn't even remotely compare. It's one of the primary reasons that I no longer buy the Sentinel. I don't know of a worse sports section in the country and I read lots of papers from all over the US.

I was actually reading a big article about that in the 'No One Gives a Damn Express'.

You read lots of papers... Great.

Knoxville is a place where noobs go to be born and Scripps veterans go to die...

Let me ask you a legitimate question, if Gribble the virgin ever asked hard questions and gave a real opinion, do you think he'd ever have the opportunity to phallate Saban, as he does now?

Today's writers pump sunshine to maintain access to the coaches. Adams, at least, speaks his mind.

Adams is a douche. Not because he writes non-homer, negative articles either but because he continually bashes players and makes professional grudges out of it.

Reporters of any type are paid to make their employer $$$$ and it doesn't matter how they do it.

Talk or print total lies and stir up crap is more the normal nowdays unfortunately.

Honestly in reporting nowdays is mostly a thing of the past.

They lie or spin everything they way they want people to see things to fit their agenda or the agenda their boss tells them to promote.

That's very sad indeed but it is what it is.

VFL...GBO!!!

Thanks UT Prof...we don't agree with everything but Adams almost always leaves a bad taste in my mouth as well. Some of us are used to hearing divergent opinions which, IMHO, is the way to go in making important decisions.

The thing that troubles me is that I have never had the impression that Adams even likes TN Football. I don't know that there is anything more indicting than this.

You are a troubled individual indeed. Bert Vincent is a relative of mine and he wrote great ****. Tom Siler wrote great ****. Sam Venable still writes great ****, although upon occasion. There is not a single writer on the KNS that can inspire jack ****.

That is a fact my friend.

"Strolling..." He was a great story writer.

Add to your list Red Bailes who was asst sports editor under Siler.

There were great writers in other areas. Furman Bisher of Atlanta comes to mind. They were not the story like today's "journalists" (in quotes for a reason), they told the story. I singled out Tom Siler earlier in this thread. I should have gone deeper.

Great patriot and lawyer in Boston. Became president he and Thomas Jefferson butted heads over the role of federal government, that continues today.

That's the difference right there. Adams isn't a sports journalist. He's a columnist. He is paid to write his opinion and get people talking about it. And he's obviously done a damn fine job of it. If you don't like him, don't read it, don't post it, don't comment on it, etc. How many times must I say this? I know how Deerpark feels whenever uniforms are brought up.

Okay, if Adams is so weak and pathetic why don't they fire him? I'm asking seriously. Is it that they can't find anyone better? Surely our journalism program is graduating literate UT fans...right?

So, if you vote no to JA, then who is the best writer in K-town? I don't think there is any big time talent covering the Vols right now. Has there been? Absolutely. But those days seems to be long gone.

Just wondering why he is still around if everyone hates what he does.

I've studied journalism. I know how it works today. He goes for hits/posts in this electronic age, and if you keep posting about him, even if it is bad, he and the KNS get what they want: exposure. The only way you'll get the change that you so desperately want is to stop doing those things.

I guess I just don't understand why people are only for hiring a new coach if it is a Gruden type. I don't think people actually understand how bad of a coach Derek Dooley is. I may be on my own here but, I would take ANY coach who would hold this team accountable and coach them up. I honestly could not think of very many coaches in major college football that I would not trade for Dooley. "I want to just stand pat if we don't get Gruden" is like saying if I can't have the keys & deed to Biltmore Estate, I will just stay in my studio apartment. IMO, ANY coach would be a huge upgrade. I don't think people realize how far this team is lost without a leader.

Adams is not old school. He is one of the first who believes you get more attention by blasting everyone and publishing as much half truths as possible to stir the pot. He is a master at it. If you want to read articles from writers from the old school, read the articles written by Marvin West which are often posted on this board. West is the last of the old time writers who know how to point out the worst and the best without bashing individuals and teams. While some of the information produced by Adams has a few valid points, his method of presentation is disgusting. It is time for Adams to leave a dusty trail out of Knoxville back to his native State. We have had enough of his approach to journalism.

The KNS continues to lose customers and Admas is one of the reasons. It will not be long before the KNS folds and writers such as Adams are one of the reasons why the print media is in trouble. I realize there are other issues which are faced by the print media and will eliminate them, but writer such as Adams hastens that fate.

Guys,

I've been reading Adams articles since the early 90's and people whined about him then as well. Only back then UT lost 1-2 games per year (mostly to UF). When Adams would say that Spurrier would light UT up, the UT fans sounded like many on here.

Don't a lot of you find it hypocritical that you're ripping Adams for his "negative" slant when the main topic on this board is who we're going to get as our next coach? Isn't that being negative as well? Go back and read what he wrote after UT beat NC State. No one was whining about Adams then.

Nobody forces you to read it. If you know you don't like it, why do you? The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. Are you really that dense and not understanding that every time you click on his columns, it tracks it?

Does anyone else have a hatred towards John Adams and the columns he writes? So negative go write for someone else.

Also taking a quick poll who is your least favorite Vols writer or reporter?

Mine goes to Wes Rucker

I bet they both are glad they don't get paid to make you happy or like them.

I am sure they DGARA what you think.

the program has been pathetic since 2002. It needs someone who know what they are doing, then the writing will be more positive because the team will be winning.. he is not a horrible writer,, but he is not a cheerleader and some on here think the paper should be a cheerleader for a bad program.
