John Adams: why we shouldn’t schedule Oklahoma in 2020

There is no reason to avoid playing any Power Five team. No rational human expects TN to win, so the occasional miracle just gains additional luster. Play them as many times as the rules allow.

If Pruitt is the guy to bring the VOLS back to national prominence then expectations for year three should and will be totally different than his first season as HC for UT. Does Adams suffer from memory loss? Butch almost Beat Bama and the Sooners in his third year. IF those were wins that season is drastically different. Welcome tough competition, don't shy from it. Ohio ST, USC, Bama and other big time programs schedule tough non-conference opponents and UT should as well.

Agree. Tired of revenue enhancer games for non P-5 teams.
Schedule P-5 top to bottom. Even if/when some are lost it doesn't affect east division outcome.

Yea, I get that, but I'm just not where some are with the "no rational human being expects us to win against a P5 team" a "miracle"...

No, I'm with you entirely. I just couldn't not write that because my referential quote sensor had already engaged.

FUN FACT:

#Vols average star rating for the CURRENT roster (players already on campus AND players who will join the team in the summer) is 3.36.

Florida’s is 3.32.

Any time you can be better than the Gators is a good day. 🍊

I want everyone to see this. 👍
You gonna post it in every thread? What does it really mean? Does it make us champs of the off season?

Two things you can count on in an OD thread. One, absolute unbridled enthusiasm and two, volfannbama playing Johnny Raincloud.

From a fan standpoint I'd rather UT play a high-profile OOC opponent. VT wouldn't have moved the needle if it wasn't at Bristol. GT last year...OK. But Oklahoma, Oregon, USC, Notre Dame...absolutely.

I ain't 'fraid of NOklahoma!
Hell, we came withing a hair of beating them with Butch as head coach.
A Pruitt-coached Vol team would have won that game!

Might as well get used to them, by 2020 they will probably be part of the expanded 16+ team SEC and the Big12 will take a dirt bath or get relegated to "Group of 5".

There is a year when TV contracts for several conferences run out (possibly 2019/2020) and that is when the next expansion for SEC, B1G, ACC & Pac12 will commence.

There are 54 teams in SEC, B1G, ACC, and PAC12 and 10 teams in the Big12. Those 10 teams could mean the other 4 conferences could be plused up to 16 each, 4 in each division, two more extra revenue games for conference championships.

Then you a few spare teams like Central Florida (huge enrollment school, recruiting hotbed), Notre Dame, BYU and possibly a Boise State/Houston type team.

John Adams is such a loser.

And I don't mean that in the Valley Girl, generic insult use of the word. I mean it quite literally: he has a losing mentality, and a loser's penchant for shying away from challenges.

Thank the heavens that he has no input on this program's direction.

Adams is a wussy. A big proponent of playing cupcakes one year, and the next whining about strength of schedule. A useless arrogant twit who need to cover soccer in the middle east, or pro wrestling shows where the wrestlers assault the "press". Seriously, if someone ever kicks his ass in front of a camera, I will find that the most entertaining and fulfilling video ever. I will watch it every day until I die.

The sooner this ****er retires, the better for UT sports.

Or we could stop posting all his articles here and stop reading them? Then we wouldnt have to wait for him to retire because his articl6es would be irrelevent?

Just curious, how will ut sports improve when a journalist retires?

Got to be a big boy to get treated like one.

I'd rather we stop scheduling John Adams.

I haven't lived in Tennessee since 2010, and I see he hasn't changed a bit.

Nearly every time I read a *piece* written by JA, I wonder if he was motivated by the sole desire to have UT fans hate him even more. I just don't understand why someone so negative wouldn't just find something else to cover.

I used to like seeing tough ooc games on our schedule. Now, that kind of excitement is gone from me. Until we are beating the SEC's weak sisters, I say pad the schedule with a few of the lesser lights. As soon as we see the winning, then toughen it up.
