John Adams: Vols in position to rule SEC East for years

If the Vols are gona dominate the East for years to come they need to win THIS season and win big. At least go to Atlanta or beyond. Show recruits we are back and in business. We are in that stage now.

Already layed a foundation by getting recruits on vision and playing time. For this class to be best in the east material we need to win some kind of championship, east/sec at least. If we would've took down Okl or Bama last year I think this recruiting class would be way better at this moment but since it didn't work out that way they are on a wait and see for this year.
No more vision or guaranteed playing time. It's results time.

Yeah that Adams guy is such an idiot, never has anything positive. Never tells it like it really is. Blah, blah, blah. Now where did put that blue font.

He says whatever will get him "clicks". He is an opportunist. When we were down, he soaked it up for all it was worth, now that things are looking up, he wants to soak that up for all he can.

I do not mind having a few "objective" people in local media, but I do mind guys like him who enjoy kicking us while we are down.

Also like other poster says, he did not even write the article well, since he stated he did not go into the future outlook of UT as to why UT could own SEC east for years. (I did not and will not click on link and read it)

27 juniors is a very nice start for next season even if several bolt for NFL.

We will not have a big drop-off in my opinion. JG and Dormandy will not be a huge drop-off. We have several All-SEC caliber players that will return. Butch and co. have stockpiled at many positions, especially on D.

2018 will be an almost repeat of 2017 IMO. Have Faith!!

This. There's enough incoming talent on D to keep us competitive in the East. I've also heard there are a couple of promising underclassmen at QB.......

There is this team to the south that loses HEISMAN trophy winners, starting QB's, LB's you name the position they lose them to the NFL EVERY SINGLE YEAR. Yet they keep winning NATTY'S, maybe u have heard of them, Alabama. Every team loses players, and as another poster pointed out, 97 PM's senior year everyone thought was the year. But it ended up being 98 with an unproven QB who had hardly played while PM was here. I thought we would have a decent year in 98 but never dreamed the year would end with a NATTY. So don't be so negative Bomy, enjoy this year because we have been lost in the desert so many years and now have found our way out. Eat, drink be merry and celebrate when we win, savor the flavor of this year before bemoaning next year. GBO

Bomy, just had another thought, are you D4H and you are trying out you POST DOBBS years name for the board here?

Just messing with you and D4H a little. But remember, you actually put the key to why you are wrong saying we suck next year in your very own description of why we would suck next year in the post. You said Dobb's is the team, but that is the key, it is a team sport, not an individual sport. The other 84 guys on the roster play and they are just as important in their own ways. Maybe we do better next year, maybe worse, maybe the same but we will not be back to the Dooley years. Again just enjoy the fun this year and hope DOBBS stays healthy.

Kidding? He's not THE team. We have outstanding talent all over the roster and that won't change much for 2017.

Dobbs is a playmaking DT QB who does more damage running than throwing. While he's very good, he certainly has his shortcomings. He'll be missed but can absolutely be replaced with one of our other younger, very talented qbs currently on the roster. Recall 1997 vs 1998.....we replaced one of the greatest college and UT qbs of all-time with a very limited, very average QB and wound up winning the national championship. Everybody can be replaced.

Fellas....sense the sarcasm! I agree with your thoughts. My post was merely a lighthearted jab at those who salivate over Dobbs.

Thanks for the laughs though!

Vol fans thought 1997 would be the year, but it was 1998 for everything to come together
Go Vols

I think we do well this year and win the East. But I think next year is THE year.

There isn't going to be a mass exodus of juniors like a lot of people here think. Hurd, Kamara, Barnett. Maybe, maybe Kongbo and Wolf. That's it.

We will be loaded next year and whether it is Dormady or Guarantano, I think QB play will be just fine if not better next year.

We lose so much after this year, assuming a bunch of Juniors declare. I just really hope we tear it up this year.

For once in a long time though we actually have decent depth. So while the losses will be big, I don't think the drop off will be all that dramatic.

Looks like Adam's got the memo he's supposed to be a home-team beat writer, talented he is, but has never been this positive on the Vols...

Weird stat that applies somewhat here. The most overrated stat in College football is a returning starter at QB. 7 of the past 10 national champs were first year or even playoff starters.

Why does everyone assume we are going to lose a bunch of juniors? Who besides Hurd, Kamara, and Barnett have proven they're good enough to leave early?

We've already seen Sutton and JRM decide against declaring because they wanted to better themselves and win games. Besides the three I mentioned above, unless someone has an absolutely monster year, nobody else is likely better than a third round pick right now.

I think it may be premature to pull the trigger on totally new. QB, new yes, both RBs new? Not so fast, the same psychics who promised us Gruden as our head coach, Hurd ready to depart end of season last year, Sutton and JRM both in the draft end of last season, are now posting with surety Hurd and Kamara both go in the draft end of this season. I'm not convinced that is the case and until either young man says that, I'll sit and await what they have to say about it end of season.
I was of the opinion that none of our juniors should leave last year. I hope that none leave this year. But I do think Hurd & AK are gone if they have the type of season we all hope they have. We'll see.

One of our VolNation brethren made an excellent point earlier this week about the huge # of top-flight running backs entering the draft next spring, and how that could (COULD) influence Alvin Kamara to stay another year to get some separation from the Hurds and Fournettes and Chubbs and McCaffreys. Made a lot of sense to me when I read it.

Add to that the idea that Alvin would then be free to take charge as the featured back for the Vols in 2017, something that might be very appealing to him.

I don't know. Alvin seems very close to the Senior class; he may want to leave with his closest buds. And the draw of NFL $$ may simply be too strong a siren song, even if he faces fierce competition in the draft.

So we'll just have to wait and see. Just agreeing that stranger things have happened than to see one of our outstanding backs come back for another year.

Go Vols!

What a bunch of drivel, come up with something everyone in the SEC does not already know. Reporters are supposed to look deeper into the issue than the regular Joe. I am sorry I picked on that link, not exactly click bait but close.

Lol...gotta agree.

Assuming those three have the type of season we all expect to see, I think they all will and should go pro.

And though they'll be hard to replace, I think ultimately them leaving early will be good for the program. The coaches need to have some examples of guys they brought in and put into the draft.

It will be really interesting to see what type of offense we put on the field in 2017, IMO. It will be the first year under Butch that the strength of the unit will be experience at OL and WR. That, paired with the fact that Dormady and Guarantano seem to be a little more naturally talented throwing the ball, might mean that we see a much bigger emphasis on the passing game than we have thus far.

Actually there's only like a dozen seniors so even with key junions leaving it will not be too bad. If we dont do too well, then Tennessee is like what opposing fans keep saying: always rebuilding. UT will be reloading from now on out if Butch proves hes a champ coach.

Edit: to prove my point, this isn't like when Bray and Co left and there was nothing behind them or the OL the next year. Not saying UT should win the east next year also but this team will still have a very good OL and WRs and DL as well as scattreed thru out the 2nd level that is plenty good.
