John Adams quote on Butch

We fired a national championship winning coach because he had 2 losing seasons in 14 years.......

perhaps we got we deserved....

Hardly. He is the cause for the program dropping as far as it did to start with.

Everyone should appreciate all that Fulmer did for UT. But by the time he left, he had grown entitled, complacent, and stuck behind the curve. His "famous last words" were "We've won a lot of games around here doing what we're doing and we ain't changin' now."

Simply put. The game had passed him by. He refused to change.... and UT tolerated it too long.

This is so wrong.

Dave Clawson says hello. No one could fix Jonathan Crompton except the Crompdaddy himself. In fact, without Hambone it probably doesn't take another half season for him to come around under Kiffin because JC would have finally had some continuity as a fifth year senior. Clawson was Fulmer embracing a spread approach post Cut.

Fulmer would have won three to four more SECE minimum post Tebow in the condition of the SECE. Blaming Fulmer for the last eight years is akin to the Obama memes:

Would have been nice to see what Fulmer could have done these past few years. The offensive line wouldn't have been a disaster for sure.

He was done. Period. Just because his successors sucked doesn't mean firing him wasn't the correct decision.

The odds that the next few years would have been worse are pretty slim, imo. We have the benefit of hindsight now. time to stop calling it the correct decision.

Butch was 2 plays from going to 2 straight SEC championships, both occurring on 4th down and both involving Florida. In 2015, it was 4th and 14, and this year it was a 4th and goal.

We won the SEC east and almost the conference in his 2nd to last year....

John Adams can go **** himself. There's your ****ing quote. He's tried too long to be divisive and he's trying too hard. Prick.

Yeah I was laughing so hard thinking at least 50% of this board hates John Adams and the other 50% apparently hate Butch Jones it's absolutely hilarious really

LOL I love how all of you fools bash John Adams and call him an idiot etc. But soon as he says something negative about Jones y'all quote him like it's from the Bible.

Well Fulmer was getting worse. It is actually the administration fault. They are the worse at finding big time coaches. The worse! Boosters stink too!

So basically, EVERYONE sucks. Hmmmmm.

Maybe the WATB fan base should have been more patient with Fulmer. Look in the mirror. :)

True. We are worse off, but we lost to a 17 year old QB and less talented South Carolina team AFTER the bye week.

We were the most talented team in the east this year. And most experienced.

Except that 17 yo QB will be 19 this month. He's a coach's son who has been groomed for the NFL, and checking the right boxes. He may academically be a freshman, but he's one of those guys who was held back because it was important that academic progress not interfere with his athletic goals. Easier to be important to recruiters (probably safer, too) when a HS QB is 6'3" and 225 pounds.

How about we stop giving Jones a pass by comparing him to Dooley. Jones is being paid big bucks to deliver big results. And next year's outlook is worse with the loss of JD and AK(He's gone).

Wait. Who are you, and what have you done with huff? You're saying the bad old days might actually have been the good ole days?

Yup see my post on Butch's "Mark my words." Many of our fans are lame. Awful. Some of the worst most unappreciative fans in America. Either spoiled rotten or dumb as dirt. Can't figure one which.

Clearly your simple mind could not comprehend my post, but I'll elaborate for you........
My reply was to the statement that Phil got fired on the basis of two losing seasons. If this is what you believe, then you're a moron. He got fired because he got absolutely owned by the one team he needed to beat in order to get to Atlanta, and because he was inconsistent in other "big" games. His recruiting and player development clearly decreased in general, and his hiring of quality coaches dropped off. The SEC was leaving him in the dust, and we needed a change. Sometimes that change works out quickly, and sometimes you have to have "stepping stone coaches" to help get you back (especially when you have an AD like Mike Hamilton). Butch is a great guy, and a GOOD coach. He will never be a great coach, but heck, I like him and I'll support him while he's here cuz I think he's a good influence on many of these kids and he's a high energy guy. Shoot, maybe he'll surprise me and prove me wrong, but he hasn't done it yet.
To think that having a certain level of appreciation for a coaches success or lack thereof somehow determines your fan status is ludicrous. I am certain you cannot surpass the intensity of my fanhood, but you definitely remind me of some stupid fans that I know.

That was one heck of a plan to fire a successful coach - even if you consider him a has been - because he wasn't beating Saban or Meyer but without a Saban or a Meyer waiting in the wings.

Phil won (2) SEC titles in 17 seasons. TWO!

I loved Phil but it was time to move on.

We've beaten Florida and Georgia 4 times in the same season since 1992. Enjoy what we have and when the season is completely over, reflect.

A Sugarbowl game is within sight of this so called "failure" of a season.

Went to title game every 3 years. Haven't been able to say that since 2008--WITH PHIL. We should have been in Atlanta last year and this year but we Butched it.

This shows just how garbage Butch Jones is, if this is true.

He can't be fired fast enough.

Dude...you are full of crap and a piss poor excuse for a Vol fan. Why don't you go root for Bama or Vandy? :bad:

Truth is you don't know sheet about coaching. I'll bet you never played a single down of college football or coached at any level. Yet you want to flap your gums trashing our coach...STFU already. :bad:

When did SEC EAST championships become such a big deal?

It became a big deal because we lost so many of the Championship games.

Winning the SEC is what matters period!

And speaking of things to "SAY". I don't want another Alabama line to be "We beat Tennessee twice in one year!" When we play Bama twice in one year, I want Tennessee to have the 2-0 record for one year.

An east championship without an SEC championship is just 1st loser.
Winning the east only means we get a shot at the title and nothing more
