A recent article from Adams states that UT won't win until 2012 because of a lack of talent due to weak recruiting classes.

His premise is that it will take 3 or 4 recruiting classes before we have the depth and all-around talent to compete. I say that this is a huge load of BS.

Adams is apparently forgetting about the 2007 class that was rated Top 3 nationally. There have been a few busts from that class but some standouts and guys who haven't been motivated to their full potential as well.

The 2007 and 2009 classes make 2 good classes in 3 years. This means we have 1 weaker class than UF, LSU or BAMA out of 3. Even our weak 2008 class gave us some future contributors like Marlon Walls or Herman Lathers.

After a top-flight 2010 recruiting class, we will have had 3 Top 10 recruiting classes in 4 years. That is enough talent to compete with anyone in the country as long as we build some depth on the OL, DL, WR and get a QB. Our class looks to be doing all of this so far except for the QB and that should come soon with a better QB next year.

The bottom line is that Adams is forgetting that the number one thing our players have going for them now is great coaching. NFL-level coaching that will push them to constantly get better.

There is no reason why we can't have a solid, winning season this year and build momentum toward a great 2010. We will be breaking in a new QB but will have tremendous talent all over the field to help ease him in.

Adams also writes like he is scared of other SEC programs by pointing out that we will have to play the top 3 SEC West schools multiple years. Since when is UT afraid of competition or a tough schedule? Is Adams really thinking that UT won't keep pace with LSU or Ole Miss?

It sounds like some of the local Knoxville media is so enamoured with other SEC programs that they are overlooking the one in their back yard.

The only thing worrying be about the next 2 years is we dont have a QB of the future & we have no offensive lineman that are going to have experience.

I agree. However, I think we will see that this staff will be successful at getting young guys ready.

It seems like every year we are seeing more True Freshmen that are ready to contribute. This usually isn't the case with OL and QB but then you have guys like DJ Fluker who might start right away and Barkley or T. Pryor at QB.

Our staff will recruit talent that they feel is the most ready to contribute from Day 1. Also, there is always JUCO and we have our eye on some great one's right now for the OL. I'm also curious to see how Lamaison progresses and if he can compete for the QB job in 2010.

You are right in that our OL is pretty green behind the starters (as are some of the starters) but we had better get the younger ones some p.t. this year and I hope that starts with the very first game.

Then there's bringing in JUCO's. But Adams is too retarded to have ever heard of that concept. He mostly just likes to write inflammatory crap; I usually pass on by anything by him. I bet he got beaten crapless on the school yard.

I think one of the hardest positions to get freshmen players ready to play on the college level is the O-Line, most freshmen O-Lineman arent use to the strength & speed of the SEC. & in 2010 & 2011 we will be playing alot of freshmen & sophomores on the OL

That's why we will rely on a couple of JUCO's and the Freshmen who enroll in January. We still have a couple of young OLs like A. Douglas and William Brimfield to go along with Jerquari Schofield from last year's class.

The type of OL that Kiffin likes make it easier for them to contribute early because there is an emphasis on athletic ability and the blocking scheme.

2010 might start a little rough at OL but in 2011 it should be a strength.

Do you ever have anything to contribute? What is the point of you even being on a message board?
Since you have been here so long I'm sincerely hoping I can get some message board lessons from you. I have been wanting to learn how to contribute in a meaningful way for so long now.

I'm not convinced we will, but if so, it will mean those freshmen OL guys can move out defensive linemen better than can big Brimfield, Shaw, Pope, Douglas, D.Thomas, Hood, etc. ... maybe that will be the case.

The only worry i have @ QB is for next year, i think we will land Bray but i also think it will take a redshirt year & him bulking up for him to be ready & i just dont see Nick Stephens being able to really help this team get better.

I am not a huge Adams fan...but, he is really that far off the mark here? I would not be surprised if we beat a bunch of teams that we aren't supposed to..and would be estatic if we pulled in a championship in the next 2 years...but be honest with yourself, with UF and UA being very solid...is it really very likely that we win the SEC this year or next? Like I said, Adams is not great...but throw the guy a bone here.

I think it can be done by 2011 . . . but John Adams is unfortunately probably writing the truth.
