Jose Aguilar, the father of Joey, recently spoke with On3's Pete Nakos to share his thoughts on the situation and revealed that he and his family carried no ill-will towards Iamaleava and his camp. In fact, he expressed gratitude towards the former Tennessee quarterback.

“We don’t have any problems with Nico,” said Aguilar's father. “If anything, it’s thank you. Joey is in a great spot. That’s what I would say, thank you. He did what he decided to do. Everything that happened, happened. I think it’s clear who won the trade. Look at the fans and the stats. Everything happens for a reason.

I say that it's about time that we found our Johnny Football, Baker Mayfield, or Stetson Bennett.
Joey Aguilar is more similar to a young Josh Heupel than anyone. Can’t wait for him to get cheated out of the Heisman. It’s a TN Family tradition.

Maybe one of our young 4 or 5 stars will be the Baker Mayfield we’ve been looking for.

Joey Aguilar looked good against Syracuse but Ga will be a different animal. Let's see how the whole team responds to better competetion rather than just worry about what Joey does. But if the J train gets rolling good....back 7 really gotta come to play some ball to.....

It's a Heupel family tradition, too. JH should have beaten Chris Weinke, but Florida State had all the hype that year. At least Josh got the NC.

Mr. Aguilar sees the hand of God in the circumstances that led his son to Tennessee. I submit that Vol Nation could benefit from the same clarity. Nico wasn't your spouse, so stop treating him like he cheated on you and betrayed you. Let the offense and wounding go. The beautiful story that God writes in your life will not always be sunshine and roses. We must remember that sometimes the rain will bring destruction, but it always brings growth. In the end, however, everything works out for our good. I think we can all agree that Nico's time at Tennessee was meant for just a season. A season that set us up for the right time when we would finally get a quarterback who appreciates his opportunity and those who cheer for him. Everything has happened as it should have, and I am grateful that Nico has found a new home. I applaud you, Mr. Aguilar. Thank you for bringing a measure of perspective.

I thank him too. We’re better off now. No longer have to convince ourselves that it’s just a matter of time before he plays up to the potential.
