Joey Aguilar-The anti Nico

Joey was not good enough for a 5-7 UCLA team. Instead, they knowingly "traded" him out for a kid and his camp who tried to extort a school by refusing to practice and attempting to hold out for more money, along with any other circus antics behind the scenes.

That should tell you everything you need to know.

Your sh*t is old and your screen name is just as embarrassing as your posts.

My hope is he will light a fire in the qb room with his passion for the game and cause a fierce Qb competition. I also think its MerkSlinger's job until someone takes it from him. He knows the system and the players. So he already has the jump on Aguilar.

Agreed. Interesting storyline come fall—-Heupel and Aguilar will both have a massive chip on their shoulder. Curious to see if it translates to positive output on the field.

Disagree. If he wasn’t good enough for UCLA they wouldn’t have pursued him in the portal. He was going to be their starter until the big star name became available. If anything ucla should be embarrassed by bringing Nico and his brother back after Big Nic and Madden showed them up at signing day last year.

Sometimes it’s a matter of principle and personally I would’ve left their asses high and dry and forced them to settle for UNLV or some mountain west school. Nico isn’t Manning, Tebow, Stafford, etc. He’s not worth taking the hit in exchange for talent. But it is LA, and everything is fake out there anyway.

Are you impressed by what Foster has done at UCLA?

I’ve been a Vol fan so long that I can make this observation, I enjoy seasons a lot more when the expectations are modest. Same goes for individual players. The ones that get elevated to GOAT status before taking a snap never quite satisfy, which is unfair. Enjoy the season with less drama - hopefully.
I see your point, and will agree that it’s generally true.

But I had pretty decent expectations in ‘22 and they were surpassed.

Joey is the anti Nico in many ways

1. One was a five-star prospect with a sense of entitlement and the other had to start at juco

2. One is undoubtedly more gifted and relies on those gifts so missing practice isn't a big deal. One had to scrape and claw for everything

3. One plays overly cautious and the other slings the tater and lets his guy makes plays

4. One is a quiet presence in the locker room and the other is a leader of men

5. One still has a massive chip on his shoulder, and I expect Joey to ball out this year!!!

I'm going to throw this stat out there too

Games throwing 200+
Nico 5/13
Joey 25/26-The only game he didn't throw for 200 was his very first
You are making a lot of assumptions about our new QB that haven’t necessarily been confirmed. We are all hopeful but we don’t know everyone’s thoughts and motivations behind closed doors

I'm going to ride the Merk bus until Heupel tells me he's changing the driver. Welcome to Joey, but he has to learn a complex offense. Merk and G-Mac are already settled in and ready to go.

I never for a minute saw anything to make me ever believe the hype that Nico was going to be in the NFL after his sophomore season. Every announcing team all last season alluded that he was a sure thing to go pro in 2026.
I don't see UCLA giving him that platform either.

Still had better weapons to throw to and better OL talent than App St
Watch the game highlights, he missed the swing pass to the running back 4 times and 3 stop and go's in the dirt. I'm not cutting on him that was CLEMSON, but expectations need to be lowered some. It sure would be great if he outplayed Nico but time will tell.

Like SecDef Rumsfeld said on being queried before going into Iraq, "You go to war with the Army you have not the one you'd like to have." We're going to play the season with the 3 guys now including Aguilar that we have as QBs. They have my support come hell or high water. GBO!

HubbaBubba,Maybe you should remove the "Butch's brick from your rearend?
Guess I wasn't clear when I posted originally...I was referring to the ridiculous nature of Butch's quote when I posted that. It was meant to be sarcasm...guess I'm not good at it.

Although I have been sitting in the same seats at Neyland for 40ish years I reside in Boone and have seen Joey Aguilar play more than almost anyone here. I can't make all the games in Knoxville, so the ones I miss are usually spent at ASU. I've seen JA play live at least 6 or 8 games, more on TV later that were recorded.

I will be the first to admit that I'm not a really brainy guy as far as the X's and O's go, but I have what I would call a loose grasp on both teams abilities and talents.

That being said, We are gonna be OK,,,,really. Not a Natty trophy in the case OK, but a solid 9 or 10 win season OK.

In case you've forgotten, 9 or 10 wins is good in the SEC.

In retrospect my main observations were Joey was really good at looking past the Ist and 2nd option receivers and using his feet to create time for plays to develope.

He did get picked off 12 or 14 times last year, most in the FBS, so there's that.

There's a lot more to unpack, Sean Clark was the head coach, he was fired last year. Jerry Moore, Scott Satterfield,, and Eli Drinkwitz had things booming at App State for decades. Sean Clark dropped the ball and part of that bounce involved Joey not being "coached up" as well as he could have been.

The talent and will are there, I saw it. Coach Heupel will do his part as usual.

It's gonna be OK.
