I get the sentiment, but the odds are more likely that young QBs were going to struggle. Last year, Nico was one of the youngest starting QBs in the P4. It is just not feasible to think a young QB will have a breakout year, when it is more likely they need a year or two to reach their full potential. Nico was on track to do that. Even though his stats were lackluster last year, he still has the physical gifts and sparks of talent and effort to be a really good college QB.What's more concerning is maybe they aren't being developed. We're 0-2 in high school QB's and 1 was a 4* top 13 QB in the country out of high school, the other was a 5* top 3 QB in the country, so it's not like we're rolling the dice on high school QB'S.
Merk is a different situation. In the world of QB recruiting, star inflation is a real thing. Recruiting rating are based on subjective potential. Merk has the physical attributes, but he was rated as a 4* because he would require a lot of development. You can tell his mechanics are not quite like Aguilar, and even GMac has a prettier release. Merk was always going to be a project no matter where he went. He still has a lot of potential, but now it is up to himself to work on the rest to get to the point where he can get on the field.
