Tennessee football has decided on who will be its starting quarterback for the 2025 season. Josh Heupel’s offense will officially be led by Joey Aguilar, the Appalachian State and UCLA transfer who joined the Vols in the spring portal window. He beat out redshirt freshman Jake Merklinger and true freshman George MacIntyre for the position on the depth chart. This was first reported by Brent Hubbs of VolQuest

The other quarterbacks that have been previously recruited are wasting their careers.
That’s the double edged sword of the new era. Things move faster than ever, but the kids do have the opportunity to move to an opportunity that makes sense for them.

Hopefully they can lock in and help the team the rest of the way with no distractions or drama. Hate to see Merk fall off the radar, that kid was all heart, but I’m also happy to see GMac rise.

Yes, and Gmac should be 2nd string and ready to go if Joey can't handle it.
GMac is very talented but will be eaten alive if he sees the field for meaningful action this year. That would mean either Aguilar is out with an injury or the season has gone off the rails.

Those who attend practice tell me Merklinger is the odd man out. Kid just doesn’t have it.

I agree, If we have to go to Gmac we are in a bad spot. Something is just off with Merk.. Gmac is clearly better. I think Joey will be fine as long as he is healthy.

Dramatic much?

You act like skinny freshman QBs have never played before.
