This. And that play ultimately decided the game as we lost by 6. Take away that play and if Gilbert hits the FG, we are in victory formation at the end. The issue is when we bust a play we bust it BAD.

Once again, another team adjusted at halftime and we didn’t. Once again, we got a turnover and went into a conservative shell and got zero points off of it. There are many more things that lost this game other than Joey’s two picks.
This is absolutely the key reason that the Vols lost the game. A 10 point or 14 point swing on one clear failure by the O line. Joey had a remarkable day considering the constant pressure from OU's defense. He passed for 393 yards and 3 touchdowns, for Pete's sake!

No. It’s all his fault and he sucks according to some of our fans. Joey was the reason that it was even a game, and he’s the reason that we have 6 wins too. With poor QB play we’d likely be 4-5 right now.

He made some bad throws and it cost us. That is a fact. However, those who are bashing the guy need to check themselves. He was our best option at the time and he is still a better option than what is behind him. Where do you think this team is if he wasn't here and we were rolling with what we had after nico left? Or would that be OK because "Oh nico left us high and dry and the backups weren't ready and blah blah blah"
He's here because our staff failed to develop the 2 QB'S that they recruited out of high school.

Joey is not good enough to play at this level. If the opposition is so bad that our receivers can run wide open, he can throw them the ball. If receivers are tightly covered, he throws interceptions. He has a history of throwing interceptions wherever he has played. It’s difficult to be optimistic about the Florida and Vanderbilt games.

Disagree. Whomever calls our offensive plays never seem to adapt to the defense we are facing that day. If we are getting beat up front, like we did yesterday, you ixnay the drop backs and go to short 2-3 second drop back passes. OK was solid up front and our COACHES did not adjust our game plan, and therefore put Joey in harms way. Peyton, Joe Namath and Dan Marino would have not done well yesterday as our QB, so please do not put all the blame on Joey.

Joey has made over a million dollars this year in a wild turn of events the last 7 months. He should be greatly celebrated for his contributions to this year’s team.

That doesn’t mean we can’t focus on the future now that all of our season goals have not been met except for the goal of being bowl eligible.

Joey’s awesome. Wish we could have had him for multiple years in this system. Our choke jobs this season are the result of the lingering contagion of loser mentality that was built beginning in the last years of the Fulmer era and throughout the Dooley, Jones, and Pruitt years.

It’s going to take a Joey A. type of leader (probably a few of them at once) to break this cycle. Who’s that lead “dawg” right now who can simply “will” us to a victory? Who will get everyone else to charge ahead relentlessly with him? Who will grab a guy like Gilbert and lift him up to get back in the fight? Who will look at a big situation a WANT the pressure on his shoulders?

Not sure if we have one. And if we do, there aren’t enough to get the scared out of the rest of the pack. At the moment, we just fold when the pressure is highest. The only reason why we won close ones against MSU, Arky, etc. is because they are even LESS ready to deal with that pressure than we are. It’s a sliding scale, and currently we are mid-level in the conference.

Huh? I’m 99% sure the staff expected Nico be the QB this year and probably next year. If you plan to start a freshman QB that’s stupid in this conference.
I don't disagree but, my point is, everybody bashes Nico and rightfully so for being overrated and he was a top 5* QB and Merk was a top 12 4* QB and he couldn't beat out a guy that was almost a fireman a couple of years ago,.sounds like there's either some bad recruiting or bad developing. 🤷

Two of the three turnover was not entirely on JA. The fumble scoop and score was because our million dollar right tackle didn't lay a glove on the Ok D end. One of the picks was because JA was getting blasted by another OL failure. The third was entirely on JA.

He’s top 5 in the country in passing yards and makes some great throws. Saying he’s not good enou the to play at this level is a dumb comment.

You wouldn’t even have 6 wins without Joey at QB. Kid has nearly 3000 yards passing and 20+ touchdowns. He made mistakes last night, but they only cost us 6 points. That shouldn’t have lost us the game. Oklahoma adjusted at halftime and we didn’t. It’s as simple as that.
Tell as old as time with the staff, other teams make adjustments but UT nah we're good. Keep doing what yall doing. It's fine.
When we do try and change it's for something dumb like ohhhh I don't know lets run this play on a critical down and throw to a guy who only touched the ball 3 times all year in trash time, that'll fool everyone...let's gooooooo

I forget, did he not play against UGA?

Joey is pretty good. Disagree entirely with your take that he isn’t good enough for this level.

He has surpassed my expectations. We knew he was a gunslinger coming in who was turnover prone so you have to take the bad with the good.

Joey has been a baller this year. Yeah, he's made some mistakes and some that have come back to bite us but we wouldn't even be competitive without him.

I honestly think that if we had kept Nico (with drama aside), we'd be under .500 right now.

Ridiculous. Go back and watch it. He threaded needles all night and didn’t have time to on about half of his passes. He may have put too much air on the first interception. Safety made a good play. Behind it in the end zone I thought it was there too. The second interception it seemed like he just threw it up. Really just one bad pass all night and it was that one.

Except for the first season, he's had one top 5 season, one top ten and another top 20. Think about the absurdity of that statement
All in perspective I suppose. I don’t think Heup is a terrible coach. I do hate that he constantly fields undisciplined, mistake prone teams. That has been a constant of his.

I just don’t think he’s a next level coach. All depends on what you want out of the program I suppose. He can likely win 8-9 a season here for a good while but never sniff any sort of title.

We can likely win 9 this year with a bowl win and I’m sure many like yourself will be thumping your chest about his many 9-10 win seasons. But in all reality there’s a good chance we win 9 with losses to GA, Bama, Florida, OU, and a dog fight vs Vandy. With that said we won’t even have a win against a ranked opponent. So what did we really accomplish if we won 9 but lost to every good team and rival on our schedule?

Like I said, all depends on perspective. If you want to thump your chest over that “9“ then so be it. I look at the substance of that 9.
