Joey’s Legacy

He will always be a fan favorite… He gave us a pulse when we were unsure. Dude is a VFL and I’d love to have him back another year. I could only imagine what he’d look like with an actual year/offseason to prepare.

Agreed, but if so, Merk will probably transfer. That would be a good news/bad news scenario.
Hate to break it to you, but Merk is gone either way.
He knows he won't start over G Mac and is likely 3rd string behind Brandon.

He'll go somewhere he can at least be QB2 if not QB1 at a smaller school for a year or two to get back to a P4 school.

The amount of emphasis UT spends on beating UF vs the amount of emphasis UF spends on beating UT is laughable!

Beating UF shouldn’t be as big of a deal as UT places on it.

It makes us look like a Kentucky fanbase. While Florida might have 3 threads.

I just checked. 3 threads on their front page that reference the Vols in the thread title and one of those is game time.

So what? We haven’t beat them in almost a quarter century at the swamp and we discuss it on a message board.

You don’t comprehend why this is a big deal to us?

I could care less if it’s a big deal to Florida fans or not. Why do you let other fan bases give you cues on how to act and feel? To me, that’s the real head scratcher.

Losing for the 4th conference loss is a way bigger deal than beating Florida would really be. Losing to a team with a losing SEC record would be awful. Winning Saturday is going to be a relief, but with very little reward....

Dude, they've owned us. Beating them is a big deal and I can almost guarantee you that the goal posts would come down if the game was in Neyland
First of all, the goal posts didn’t come down in ‘16, ‘22, or ‘24, thank goodness.

I promise you, UF at 3-7, isn’t tearing down the goal posts if they win on Sat. Not happening.

Caring just doesn't mean tearing down the goalposts.

Florida fans still hate us and don't want to lose 3 out of 5 against us

He has a legacy already for stepping in and having a great attitude. If he beats Florida and Vandy and wins a bowl he’ll have a very strong legacy. If he could go back and erase the pick six and fumble six and we make a few more FGs he becomes a legend and would be right up there with the greatest VFLs.

I know Casey is known for a few things, like an SECG appearance, some Bama tail-kickings, and putting up great numbers, but one thing I'll always remember about him is he waded into The Swamp and walked away with two WINS.

If Joey does half of that this week, that will be a HUGE part of his legacy as a VOL !!!

Until we win in the Swamp, it will be that way.

Win Saturday, and the UF game fades drastically in importance because there's no Swamp streak, UT will have won 3 of the last 5, and the teams will only be playing every other year (only once every 4 years in the Swamp).

That's why it's so big, even though UF is only 3-7. They'll likely be pretty good the next couple of times we play them. But with no streak or "curse," they'll just feel like another good SEC team...go out and play well and may the best team win. Like playing LSU or Oklahoma or Texas.

I’m not sure what his long-term legacy will be, but if he beats Florida this weekend, it’ll be a game people remember for years, especially with the drought we’ve had in Gainesville.
