Joe Milton discussion after game 1

He went from my biggest excitement to biggest disappointment in one quarter. The other two did little to extract me from that assessment.

To be fair, I gave him til halftime before calling him Joe Blow.

And Milton plays like Hilton!

Along with his terrible deep ball inaccuracy and staring down receivers and complete lack of pocket presence, this massive man apparently hates contact. He has no scrambling ability that any SEC D would be concerned over and he does not look willing to use his massive body as a weapon.

If he was any good Michigan would have paid to keep him.

Anybody got Maurer’s phone number?
Mauer looks like the smartest guy in the room. He saw there wasn’t going to be an actual QB competition. It was handed to Milton without him earning a thing. Everything was slanted to favor Milton. If you don’t believe this happens you’re a fool. Worked in a competitive environment all my life. One where managers get paid based on the success of everyone under them, yet they pick favorites and work things to try and make their favorites look better than they actually are. When that happens we see exactly what we saw Thursday. A 1 for 11 stretch of miserable football.

CJH is going to need to let his QB Room know he is looking for continued improvement and will be going with the "hot-hand" similar to the 'Ol Ball Coach Spurrier.

Give each about 3 series to establish some rhythm and make moves as needed. We have to see better execution and ball placement to improve.

We left at least 2 scores on the field for different reasons.

I don't think CJH is happy with passing game shown last night.

Defense played pretty well. Kick game was solid.

I had a pretty mean post typed out directed at our fans but I knew it would fall on deaf ears so decided to move on. Honestly, I'm sick of being associated with Tennessee fans and I'm convinced that we are where we are as a program because of the toxicity of our fanbase. The negavols suck the life out of our players and coaches. Much harder to succeed when you aren't having fun. I have a very strong disdain for our fanbase.

Perhaps you should get another team ? BTW, Milton had a horrible night.....and I don't think it is fixable!

I had a few good points to make but after reading all the comments I’m not sure they would be understood, 🤷🤷

He needs to stop holding the ball
He was way too stationary post snap almost like a statue and when you have no body movement in your lower half it makes it difficult to do just about anything a quarterback needs to. Coming off your first progression and seeing that your second is open is easier to get the ball too in time, right ball, placement, etc with just a little rhythm in your lower half. That's why you see quarterbacks have all different types of ways they do this. Manning looked like he was trying kill ants on every snap but it made it easier for him to get the ball out on time and in the right place for a receiver to make a play, Tom Brady has the slightest of bounce in his legs as the play develops. It is also very challenging to be flat footed and then choose to elude people in the backfield and scramble. Same principal applies. I hope he sees this on tape today and works on this piece. Touch passes as well need to be worked on. This to me is one of the most overlooked and underrated attributes of a QB. I don't care that much if he can throw it 80 yards on the fly. I care that he can put the right touch on balls and lead receivers or hit a tight window with touch to drop it off between the LB and Safety for a nice pick up.

I wonder if a young Peyton Manning would even get a look from our coaching staff. Coaches prefer big, strong, mobile QBs, even if they can't find open receivers. Peyton wasn't mobile and had average arm strength. He was simply a winner. While the OL was a bright spot, last night's QB play won't win many SEC games.

I don't think he was "scared" to pull the trigger he was just trying to make a bigger play. Needs to play within the offense. The 3rd down run wasn't pretty, but c'mon... that's incredibly nit-picky. He made a decision. It didn't work out. Every other time he ran the ball he took what he could get.
Scared, apprehensive, gunshy...use whatever adjective you want, but he appeared afraid to pull the trigger on several throws...afraid of making a mistake because he saw it too late, perhaps. Either that, or he has very poor vision and doesn't see the field well, at all, to miss some of the open receivers he had between the hashes.

Again, Jordan Rodgers called it out multiple times, and I saw it with my own two eyes. It happened. The reasoning is up for debate, but I don't think the answer is, "Oh, he was just looking to make the bigger play." The plays he missed were the bigger plays.

And, no, calling out the missed opportunity to pick up a 1st down isn't nitpicking. You're only afforded the luxury of that opinion because we played Bowling Green and not Florida, and we won the game by 32 points instead of losing by 3. I'd like to know he had the football IQ to know the down and distance required irrespective of opponent.

Sooo many armchair QBs in the forum. It’s too bad none of you guys went to the walk-on tryouts…
it was vanilla for a reason. I really believe we will here a different tune next week after Pitt.

Milton is clueless out there...looks dumber than a football bat...just like our coach...can't believe he thought this dude was better than bailey...im already on the far coach train!!!.....wait til next week...Pitt will eat our lunch!!!! Same OLE Crap!!!!! Year in year out!!!...srry rant over again lol

Do you really think CJH is dumb?

Because that invalidates pretty much anything else you may post...

The problem is simple. He can’t read the game fast enough. He had open guys all over the field. He also threw the ball late on several passes.

My season prediction ( Milton scrambles and gets dinged up. Bailey comes in and balls out).

On another note: I liked our guards tonight. Tackles were lacking.
