Joe Milton Calls Out USCjr For Cheating

Still waiting for the hammer to get dropped on Michigan. Should be in the next couple months. They will have to forfeit all those games, but the BS part is that they will always have that championship. All their Big10 rivals raised Cain DURING that season because there was already indisputable video and photograph evidence of the blatant cheating...begging the NCAA to at least declare UM ineligible for postseason play in 2022. There was ZERO doubt about UMs guilt. Michigan did the EXACT opposite of what we did at UT when we found out major NCAA violations had occurred. They lawyered up...stonewalled the NCAA...lied about the cheating...and stood by their dirt bag coach who IMMEDIATELY left for the NFL when the season was over because he knows he is guilty and will get a show/cause ban from college coaching. Michigan handled the entire situation with zero class and cooperation and I cannot wait for them to get what they deserve. The best RB (by far) in this 2026 class is also choosing between us and UM in the next few months. I can't believe he would want to go be part of their next several years of penalties and probation etc when he can come play for UT which led the SEC in rushing the past 2 years. They should also receive a postseason ban for their blatant cheating and lack of cooperation.

Michigan hasn’t won a legitimate consensus championship since the 1940s. 97 was split and Nebraska was the real BCS champ. 23 gets a big asterisk that will stay forever

Unfortunately if you’re expecting a real punishment to be doled out, you’ll probably end up being pretty disappointed. I want the hammer to be dropped on them, but I’m certainly not expecting it.

BCS didn't exist until '98. We won the 1st BCS NCG
Yeah, but it was called something similar. Forget. TN and Nebraska were matched up in the so called championship game that year per the new voting etc. Mich and Washington did their own Big 10 AP poll thing. If TN would have won and Mich lost I think we would have been champions

The Bowl Alliance

In 1997, the same problem occurred but with the #1 team in both polls being locked out of the Bowl Alliance's championship game. Following the regular season, the top three teams in both polls' rankings were Michigan, Nebraska, and Tennessee. As the Big Ten champion, Michigan was contracted to play in the Rose Bowl on January 1.

You beat me to it @YankeeVol
It wasn't Michigan's or Washington's fault (or some AP poll thing). It was the BA. The Bowl Alliance failed to include the Pac-10, Big Ten (and thus the Rose Bowl)...

The AP Poll has existed since the 1936 college football season. The AP also releases a final poll after the bowl games, which became standard starting in 1968.

That’s something I never heard mentioned. TN had very little to play for after Michigan got awarded a win against Washington St.

If clock challenging had existed in 1997, Washington St would have been awarded another play inside Michigan’s 5 yard line, with the opportunity to win the game. Michigan was instead saved by the bell, when the ball was spiked and another second or two ran off the clock.

After Michigan won that game, a one loss Tennessee would not have had enough votes to claim a share of the national championship. Nebraska, on the other hand, was still undefeated and playing in the “national championship game”. They had a lot to play for in Tom Osborne’s final game.

Feel free to check my memory. I feel pretty confident that all of the above is accurate.

Yes we were out once Mich won but I remember their game against Wash St being close with controversy at the end. Nebraska was just a monster and the way they dominated us led me to believe they should have been the consensus national champion. Mich should not have gotten the split vote.

What? If course they won't retain the NC.

I completely agree!

However, it seems the polls split as the coaches wanted Osborn to retire with a title.

I’m in agreement with everything that you just stated.

However, by the time the NCAA hands down a ruling, if any, they will probably be defunct.

For themselves, they played it right just as we did for our situation. They knew it was their time. They knew the coach would be gone. They even knew if the NC was taken away retroactively, the benefits would still outweigh whatever penalties, including fines, they would have to pay.
