Joe Brady?

I'm sure one day Joe Brady will be a great head coach, but I dont want him to cut his teeth here. We've done the "up and comer" thing the past 4 coaches and wiffed. We need a proven, ready to come in here and use the talent and fire up the players type of coach. Tired of "waiting for next year / year 0" excuses.

It's sad to say but I think the only way we get that is for the boosters to pony up big money and I'm not sure they will.

Good gravy we just want to suck forever don’t we?

I expect this from the admin but can the fans please skip the dollar bin and at least hope for a quality HC. It’s time to stop screwing around and make a splash. No more “up and comers”. Go.Get.A.Winner.

Brady got out of college as quickly as he could. He's already a major name for head coaching jobs the the NFL as soon as next year. His fortunes likely are as an NFL lifer.

Good move by him.

Program building is very different from X's and O's. The college game revolves around the former. His expertise is in the latter, which is more useful in the NFL.

As a college head coach, he probably would turn out a lot like Jim Mora. Makes the team look better for the first couple of years, before the results decline.

I think that if CJP leaves before Hugh Freeze has been snatched up by a USC Jr. or some other program, we should go after him with vigor! He's been successful everywhere he's been. And with the personal issues, it appears he has learned his lesson. Liberty University (as you may or may not know) is a strict religious university. Freeze can recruit his rear end off too! I think the best we can hope for at the moment is for CJP to hold the recruiting class together so the next coach starts with a good roster.

I digress. I think currently UT has enough talent to be near the top of the SEC, not AT the top but near. I think the true problem is culture.

Like Michigan did with Harbaugh. They went out and snagged a NFL head coach with super bowl experience and paid him a kings ransom.
You don't always get what you pay for, right?

Actually I agree with you, I dont think we should go after an NFL coach. College is a different animal with regulations and recruiting. I would like someone with head coach experience (preferably in the SEC) who can bring in top notch coordinators, has a foothold already in the recruiting pipelines, and is a winner..........Obviously I'm looking at Meyer, Kiffin, Freeze......but I wouldnt necessarily be opposed to a dark horse like Stoops. He's done very well for a basketball heavy school, I just dont think he has the recruiting or the backing to get completely over the hump. With all the talent Pruitt has brought in here, I think he could do well year 1.........but certainly I want a Grade A+ coach like Meyer, Freeze, etc.

The biggest problem I have with Freeze is due to his recruiting. He’s gonna be watched like a hawk whatever big job he gets next because of his prior recruiting indiscretions.

Bingo, Tennessee needs to stop hiring coaches that learn on the job and hire a coach that’s been doing it and winning.. after we fire Pruitt and hire another up and comer it’s jus the same cycle over and over.. one day prob in my 70’s and 80’s Tennessee will get it right.. will always love My Vols but it jus no excitement from me on football side of things and seems like it’s gonna be that way for a very long time..

Program can't afford another "reach" in hiring a head coach. No more coordinators or "up and comers". Proven/experienced is what UT has to have this time if they grow a pair and get rid of cornbread.
I agree. Outside of Johnny hiring "proven coaches" has never been Tennessee's M.O. but we've also never been this bad for this long before. Gotta do something different.
