Who did Mickey name as POG? Mine would have been tri-players of the Game: Nared, Russell, and Middleton.
JMU is a pretty good team, but outside of Hall and #20, they don't have anybody that should scare anyone. But the LV's had no answer for Hall. She scored from everywhere in all manner: drives to the basket, pull up jumpers, three point shots. She and her teammates missed a bunch of free throws or they darn well might have won. The LV's have no defensive stopper. And that's a problem. Jackson may become one - she did probably the best job guarding Hall.
Middleton played point most of the second half and I would be thrilled if she replaced Reynolds full time at the position. Middleton has a better instinct and makes things happen - sometimes for the worse.
Nared looked fantastic in the first half but the three quick fouls in the third quarter killed her second half.
Russell looked good. JMU played a box-and-one on her quite a bit and double teamed her of course but she was patient but strong.
Diamond...did absolutely nothing. And I'll leave it at that.
Dunbar was 1 for 6 shooting or something like that and got beat on defense a couple times. She better find her stroke quick.
Altogether some things to be optimistic about - Russell, Nared, Jackson, and Middleton look to be improved, the outside shooting was good.
But stagnation and ball movement is still a periodic problem and the defense has to get better. Maybe this team needs to zone full time.
