Deal Done...

Randy Lerner has sold the Browns to Tennessee businessman Jimmy Haslam for more than $1 billion.

Since the Lerner family acquired the Browns in 1999, they've gone 59-117 (.335) and posted a winning record twice. Haslam is the CEO of Pilot Flying J and previously was a minority Steelers investor. At that time, he described himself as "1,000 percent" a Steelers fan. Ex-Eagles president Joe Banner is reported to be among the purchasing group, which could lead to Mike Holmgren's exit.

I wonder where this # comes from. The economy is crappy especially in OH. I know the fans come out and merchandise and all, but just don't understand how they can demand 1 billion. Same thing baffled me with the dodgers deal. I fully understand all the extra benefits will make up for it at the end of the day as a pro franchise itself isn't a profitable biz until its sold.

I guess I would just like to know the inner thinking of why this # was best. Was the stadium and land apart of the deal?

Obviously moving it might be a thought too.

Surprised there isn't a thread on that yet....

I'd like to see discussion about what y'all think about it, and how/I it will affect UT.

I'll hang up and listen now.

There is a thread on this on a board you dont know about.

Wont affect UT in any way whatsoever.

Maybe if you spelled Haslam correctly in your search of threads, you would have found it.

Just hitting the newswire...

One league source tells Clark Judge of CBS Sports that new Browns owner Jimmy Haslam plans to "blow the whole place up," likely ousting team president Mike Holmgren and GM Tom Heckert.

A little more info...

Jimmy Haslam III has big plans for the Browns. And he better. After all, he just signed to purchase the team from Randy Lerner for $1 billion.

On his to-do list:

- He's eager to bring ''winning back to Cleveland.''

- He's eager comfort fans by offering up a ''zero chance'' the team moves out of town.

- He is ready ''listen, learn and observe.''

- He is ready to explore naming rights for the team's stadium.

- And get this: You know that famous look, right? Who doesn't? The orange helmets, the lack of a logo on it, the simplicity of it all? It could - could - be on its way out. ''Will we change uniforms? I don't know,'' he said. ''But it is a marketing world.''

Haslam - the truck-stop magnate from Tennessee who is now a former minority owner of the rival Pittsburgh Steelers - watched his first practice Friday at his new team's facility and quickly pledged to provide progressive leadership to this AFC North squad that went 4-12 last season.

''Our style is going to be involved,'' said Haslam, wearing an orange tie and sporting a Browns logo pin on his suit lapel. ''We'll be out there selling the Cleveland Browns all the time.''
