That's a fair and reasonable sentiment, but regardless of how you feel about Jimmy Kimmel and the quality of his show ....
I feel like we should all be glad that the federal government didn't succeed in getting a late night television talk show cancelled, just because the President doesn't like the political opinions which are being expressed by the host of the show.
Don't forget a ratings boost.Make no mistake, this is a result of how stupid this all was on the part of the government, ABC, the affiliates, and those outraged.

Already ahead of the game. I will continue my boycott of ABC/Disney except for a small exception for live sporting events.“It’s not personal. It’s business.”
Disney is pursuing acquisitions and eager to avoid regulatory hold ups. Nexstar is seeking to acquire Tegna and needs an exception from the Trump administration.
Jimmy Kimmel did not make jokes about Charlie Kirk’s murder. He did make a joke about MAGA attempts to dissociate themselves from the accused murderer and align him with left leaning groups of all kinds.
ABC suspended Kimmel’s show indefinitely. Nexstar and Sinclaire declared that they would not broadcast Kimmel’s show if it ever returned. More than supporters of Kimmel began to protest thanks to Brendan Carr’s ill-advised comments. When the protests began to impact subscriptions to Disney’s products, Disney put Kimmel back on the air. Nexstar and Sinclaire are insulated from such a direct hit to their revenue streams and have continued not to air Kimmel’s show.
Now, some MAGA folk are calling for people to cancel subscriptions to Disney products in reaction to Kimmel’s return. We will see how effective this may be, but it lacks coincident with the reaction to the comments of the FCC chairman.

You really believe the protests were solely to put Jimmy back on the air? Without Carr’s comments, there’s no way enough people create enough stir to get Jimmy back in the ABC lineup. The major impetus for protests were Carr’s comments. Jimmy doesn’t have a big enough following. This part seems like a major reach.
Now, you’re reaching. Kimmel has never implied he was MAGA, not even sarcastically. It’s obvious his motivations were all from a left wing perspective and Kimmel intentionally lied about that, implying he was “MAGA”.

Disney nipped it in the bud, putting Kimmel back on before it could gain momentum. It’s business. Disney+ needs more subscribers to achieve the desired profitability. Don’t want to lose any. Disney wants its acquisitions without any flack from the federal government. The fine line of risk abatement was to put Jimmy back in the lineup and take cover behind broadcast companies that aren’t showing Jimmy. Not sure what you believe I was objecting to, but I was claiming it’s a reach to proclaim there was such a large public outrage that Disney felt they had no choice but to give in. Idk the number of subscriptions lost, but I find it doubtful that it was truly significant.
When you state they’re trying so hard to claim he’s anything other than MAGA, you’re very strongly implying, he’s MAGA.

Kimmel’s “joke” was that MAGA was trying to dissociate themselves from the accused muderer and link him to the left. Nowhere in there was an implication that Jimmy was MAGA.
The shooter comes from a conservative family, members of which state that he’s recently estranged from their viewpoint and into transexual rights.
In real time, Kimmel’s “joke” fell flat.
Enough. Pick nits from someone else’s post. There are plenty from which to choose. If that were true, they would have brought Gina back.
The government should have no such power
You’re assuming a lot here
You only have to disassociate yourself with someone if…..they’re associated with you. He is not.
There was a solid joke at the end of it regarding the stages of grief. But that part wasn’t a joke. He made a false claim.
Yeah…..about that……Don't forget a ratings boost.
