Jimmie Kimmel Show gone !

It's not just Sinclair that is still not showing Jimmy. Nexstar is also continuing to refuse to air the show. That's another 60 markets on top the 30 from Sinclair that won't be airing the show.
Give it time and someone will write an article or tweet about Trump pressuring the two companies or else ... and the zealots will fall back in line for their marching.

well Nexstar is still trying to get the FCC to approve a merger which requires I pretty big relaxing of rules to fly.

that said, it's hard to imagine if this is just an FCC thing they would just want the apology from Kimmel to put him back on if Trump truly wants him off the air.

I bet his first show back ratings are the best he has in his shows entirety
Agree Liberals will show their support as a way to protest Trump in their mind and then the ratings will quickly return to the downward spiral his ratings have suffered for 10 years. Hopefully he doesn't double down on his lie that the shooter was MAGA although I doubt he will admit to his blatant lie. TDS has strange effects on some people.

My guess is that money will determine how long these affiliates hold out. How long can they afford to? Do they still have to pay for the show? I don't know.

Money will definitely be the determining factor but I think it is the other way around. How many sponsors will be ant to continue to purchase spots on Kimmel when far fewer viewers are even able to see the show?
Do you think advertisers will agree to continue paying the same rates for a much smaller market?
I am almost certain that every advertiser for the show is one the phone with ABC right now demanding steep discounts. They would be crazy not to.

It’s really not that hard to keep opinions to yourself in public. I snicker to myself when I listen to people voice their positions that turns half the people off. It’s also fun to keep people guessing.

If you have a good gig it’s best to keep your head down and not be controversial.

In here it’s different. Screw all yall that don’t agree with me. 😄

The merger was looking positive in terms of gaining approval even before the Kimmel stuff. That 39% cap was good before the Internet, but with tech companies and their TV and content options it looks to be outdated with today's entertainment. If Sinclair stands firm, they alone will blackout Kimmel's show to 39% of the population.

Do you think it'll be that high?

The two corporations collectively control about a quarter of ABC affiliates. Nexstar operates 33 ABC affiliates, with its largest market represented by WKRN-TV in Nashville. Sinclair runs 38 ABC stations, including KOMO-TV in Seattle.

Just curious; can I get a roll call of anyone here who actually stays up and WATCHES Kimmel?
I would stay up if it wasn't a standup version of The View or MSNBC.

Hope I'm wrong but I expect the affiliates to cave before next week...maybe even after tonight

it doesn't make any sense to expand the percentage. especially to 80% of the market. a monopoly is bad even if its out dated tech.

True. The FCC has been relaxing consolidation over the last 20 years. Both DJT and Carr favor deregulation which is pro Nexstar's acquisition.

Why exactly would they want to?
What do they gain by doing so? The only financial upside would be local advertising dollars and most local stations bring that in primarily during news and prime time hours.
And if they did bring Kimmel back; then they get boycotted from the opposite direction.
And between bud light, Jaguar, and Cracker Barrel; companies are beginning to realize that conservative boycotts tend to be much more effective than liberal ones.

I doubt Kimmel does anything but emphasize how the focus should have always been on the tragic loss of Charlie Kirk's life, and offer condolences to Kirk's widow, who has shown extraordinary grace in the last week.

I think the monologue part is fairly predictable...he will high-road it for the most part. Since he wasn't even trying to make fun of CK it will be really easy to say that his intent was never to upset people mourning CK, and tell them sorry that he created a dust storm for them, and express condolences. He'll thank his bosses for working through it with him. He'll express that he hopes he can get the affiliates back. He'll make a statement about free speech. Maybe he'll clarify that he wasn't trying to say the kid is leftist, "it's still unclear what this kid is about," type of statement.

Honestly, I'm more interested to see what he does with the rest of the show. He's gonna wanna make a splash with the whole hour.

We have youtube now. Not only do we have youtube, but the same distributor (Google) controls it in every region of the world. We'll be OK if one company owns 80% of ABC affiliates.

Bowl Brother,

I pray that you beat this addiction. I too am an alcoholic (recovering)!

Society never really talks about alcoholism, but just like drug addiction, it destroys lives, families, jobs, and relationships.

I have made comments about drug addicted people during my own addiction that I am ashamed of. Through my recovery and with the light of Jesus I have seen my errors and pray that everyone experiencing any type of addiction will recover.
How to kick an addiction to the PF?
