And the very frequent corrections most newspapers have to print periodically. Such a statement removes legal liability in most cases. The FCC would have had no basis on which to threaten a broadcast licenseHe would have had to read a statement like The View does on pretty much a weekly basis since they are on the same public airways.
It's complete horseshit. I'm so sick of these idiots. I don't wish harm on any of them but I damn sure wouldn't mind seeing them pushed into exile! And I agree with you. But that should have been the case a long time ago. But this "it's not both sides" narrative they are trying to push is absolutely false.
All good things come to an end. Late night was pretty much in the death throes when Leno left.Carson, Leno, and early days of Letterman were the bench, ark of what late night was supposed to be. Letterman lost his way toward and since his retirement and got the infection. The current late night formats are flash pans, and the fire is fading for sometime now.
True. Everyone else had already shifted by the time he walked out. And the replacements were downward spirals posessing no broad appeal or natural humor. Leno was good. Letterman once was then got brainwashed. Carson was the God of late night. Many thought they were. But there can only be one.All good things come to an end. None of us know what exactly went down at Disney/ABC. That is what you want to believe. I can't read minds either, but I do know 2 things which are true for sure :It was Disney’s decision. They were going to let Kimmel stay on if he was willing to apologize and he refused to (at least that is the version I am hearing). If your boss tells you to do something and you refuse to do it; you are subject to disciplinary actions.
Heck, once upon a time Stewart and Cobert were actually pretty good on their fist roundabouts when they had the early latenight spots.. We used to watch both all the time, and thought Cobert was better. They both derailed something awful. All good things come to an end. Late night was pretty much in the death throes when Leno left.
Once upon a time, CNN was the benchmark and Fox was back in the pack. I'm thinking maybe 20 years ago was when they started shifting to biased reporting. Could go back further. Not sure who else is old enough to recall that. But, I do recall CNN once being a solid unbiased outlet. The same reason people don’t watch cnn, msnbc, why Joey Reid was canned, the view, etc. People get sick of the constant tds bs.
I haven't overlooked that at all. The problem is, that because of the de-regulation that Nexstar needs from the FCC in order to complete a merger, the threats made by FCC Chairman Brendan Carr carry significant weight. Nexstar controls 33 ABC affiliates.First of all, no question Trump wields tremendous power right now. That's a fact. But let's not overlook the power of ABC affiliates who said that they would not run Kimmel's show anymore. That's what killed the show

Stop with all your truth. MAGA minds unite and ignore!I haven't overlooked that at all. Brendan Carr is responsible for the cancellation of Jimmy Kimmel Live! becoming such a controversy. He should not have made those threats. Those threats have complicated matters, to say the least.
He asked what was different. That was a difference .... and yes, Brendan Carr's public statement was a threat. That's not spin. That's reading comprehension ....Fox News is cable. ABC and Kimmel are over the air broadcasters.
“Publicly threaten”. LOL. Nice spin.
For awhile I watched Letterman but towards the end kinda lost interest. The last late night guy I put any time into was Ferguson.I think there is room for a late night show. I think someone with a quick wit, who is likeable willing to be apolitical or politically balance with jokes could be moderately successful.
Will never happen but I would watch Dave Chappelle as a late night host. Allow him to have an edge. Do some very light risqué material. Think he'd be great.
Or it was just an advantageous opportunity to go ahead and nix a show that was on it's way down and out soon anyway.I haven't overlooked that at all. Chappelle would definitely be apolitical IMO. And is actually funny.I think there is room for a late night show. I think someone with a quick wit, who is likeable willing to be apolitical or politically balance with jokes could be moderately successful.
