Jimmie Kimmel Show gone !

after the Nexstar merger info came to light I certainly think Nexstar was trying to curry favor with the FCC and Trump so that comes into play.

strangely the merger request is BIG ask in relaxing the ownership consolidation rule from 39% to 80% - I doubt the prior FCC would have gone along with that and this one probably shouldn't either.
holy crap 80%, i knew they wanted it raised, but that is ridiculous. FCC needs to tell them to pound sand.

I don’t think this has anything to do with Biden. This is all trump.
After 4 years of weaponizing government under Biden, and five years of it trying to prevent candidate Trump winning and then to remove him from office, molding and coercing media and tech into a collaborative entity in that pursuit, you thought there'd be no consequences to that guy taking office again?

I don't think Republicans can simply walk away from that; it's not self-correcting. In fact, it's how radical Democrats and every form of anti-Western contingent under their banner, were able to push the country so far left; weak Republicans intimidated by vile people calling them 'racist!' This is a reckoning time that has to happen. There's a lot of pulling out by the roots that needs tending to. I'm not a fan of fair-fighting until the other guy takes it in the nuts, too, and we reach mutual understanding.

That said, Bondi was way out of line with her comments on hate speech, and declared a day later she's talking about speech inciting violence...okay, but this is at least 2nd time she has grossly misspoken and is making herself a liability.
FCC/Carr should simply have not commented. Kimmel was probably toast for making himself a liability as the Nextstar release implies: Nexstar ABC Affiliates To Preempt “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Indefinitely Beginning Tonight | Nexstar Media Group, Inc.. I don't know under which public airwaves doctrine Carr legitimately sees 'room for work to be done', but this was an unforced error, like Bondi's.

Conservatives have a shite ton of money and it's long overdue they learn to use it.

The FCC chairman was without question out of line in his comments. He should have never said what he did but I don't think that played into the decision to suspend/cancel Kimmel. The FCC would have lost had they tried to revoke individual stations broadcast licenses (the networks don't hold licenses).
Of all the discussion I've read so far, you are closest to me in our thoughts.

I don't agree completely with your take on his comments.

Doesn't the FCC oversight on the national broadcasters as well as the local companies?

The inference being that one group is held to a higher standard than the other?
I guess it depends on whose inference you mean?

I was implying we should hold both to the same standard. I inferred from his comment that only the left should be held to a standard.

I gotcha. I do appreciate you and I should have looked for context in your statement. Think the last few days has frazzled my brain and might need to step back from this topic for a bit.

I have no idea about what power the FCC has over networks.
