Jimmie Kimmel Show gone !

I’ll never understand the strategy of pushing politics on late night TV and automatically turning off a chunk of the potential audience.
There was a time when the jokes were equally distributed. I think Carson did a pretty good job of finding humor in both sides.

But the lefty big government partisans cannot tolerate any 'jabs' at the big left, so they collectively ruined the humor and now it is one sided.

I am of the opinion that a person can say anything they want but there are repercussions to what you say.

If I tell my boss he is an idiot to his face and he fires me, don't blame the boss. This is why people need to get off of social media. Before people had to wonder what you thought about a situation now you can just go online.

In this case he has an excellent argument that he was taken off the air due to government theats against his employer, motivated by a desire to squelch his political speech. It doesnt get much clearer than this.
The other side will argue that it was cancelled because affiliates like Nexstar and Sinclair refused to carry his show. Without affiliates carrying the show, he's done. You'd play hell winning this case

Kimmel's ratings were down 11% in August. This is obviously before his MAGA comment, so you can only imagine what they were seeing with viewers in September.

Which things did you not agree with CK about?
I can give you my view

This stuff from Charlie Kirk is cringeworthy. Regarding Taylor Swift's engagement:

1) "Taylor, have lots of kids"
2) "Submit to your husband"
3) "Change your name. If you don't then you don't really mean it"

I can’t remember a time where a president was this blatantly authoritarian.
Understood. But that doesn't mean there haven't been more authoritarian presidents (presidential decisions is more accurate, i think).

A lot of truth here from Johnny, but I don’t necessarily agree that Kimmel needs to be shutdown. Maybe affiliates were looking for an out and this was convenient, but the optics are bad. Trump has a history of getting involved in things that should be way below the Office of the POTUS. IMO a POTUS has no business talking about late night tv hosts or most things (crimes, lawsuits..etc) that are handled domestically. There’s a line here that people crossed after CK was murdered, IMO some of the reactions have been beyond disgusting and revealed the true character of terrible people. That said, you gotta be careful that the pendulum doesn’t swing too far in the other direction, where you’re inventing reasons to fire people for comments that you don’t agree with ethically.

Mostly some of the comments he made were problematic, even with context.

I have no problem with DEI as a philosophy toward hiring. I do have problems with quotas. My thoughts are if the candidates are equal, it is beneficial to both your company and the individual to hire the minority or underrepresented. You are being both intellectually honest in making the best decision for the company and being ethical. Charlie seemed to be opposed to DEI completely, I think there is some nuance there to be considered.

Those are just a couple of the top of my head, I could think of more with some thought. I never completely agree with anyone about everything.

I can't disagree, but I wonder how much of that is due to Trump being Trump and how much was due to Biden being ineffective, inattentive and unable to lead during his presidency.

Trump is certainly Authoritarian, no denying that.

I agree a lot but not all of what you shared. I largely ignore POTUS's proclamations / protestations now. There is simply too much which is of no consequence.

What happened to him since that show? I'd love to ask Adam Carolla that question
Signed ABC/Disney contract and had to play puppet would be my guess.

Adam somehow managed to stay successful while keeping his personality.

Because they want to win Emmys and also get the majority of actors (who are liberal) on their shows

That would work if he wasn’t losing money, refused to do an apology per his bosses and that over 200 affiliates refused to carry his show around the country. ABC had no choice
