Jimmie Kimmel Show gone !

I’ve never cared for Jimmy Kimmel’s acid-tongued humor and didn’t/don’t watch his show.

Previously, Kimmel had decried the murder of Charlie Kirk and expressed sympathy and prayers for his family.

Jimmy’s spiel about Trump administration members’ attempts to spin Kirk’s accused murderer as representative of a broader left-wing terror campaign included a “stinger” that the accused was more like the Trump administration members. This was weak and as off the mark as any attempt to spin the actions of the accused as representative of a broader left-wing terror campaign. There’s really no issue here other than poor taste.

There is an issue with Trump appointee, Brendan Carr threatening action by the FCC against the network and its affiliates if they did not cease broadcasting Jimmy Kimmel’s show for the sin of affronting members of the Trump administration. A bigger issue would be actions by the FCC to make good on that threat.

Feel free to make arguments about the threat of FCC action influencing the network choosing to suspend Kimmel’s show and some affiliate’s refusal to air any more episodes, but, bottom line, it is a business decision. Without any actual action by the FCC, it remains a business decision.
It’s the money, honey.. yep 😂

It is almost like they were looking for a reason to get rid oh his show. 1.1-1..8 million viewers for a show that cost over 100 million a year to produce losing Disney 60 million a year.
Yep, we’ve all seen it happen at work.. oh Bob is making too much in middle management.”. well, Bob, you crapped the bed on this project and nobody likes you byee-eee” even though Bob has been there 10 years doing the same damn things 😂 Kimmell is just having to deal with what regular people have to deal with, and I don’t feel sorry for him at all.. he can go home and cry in his money and make unfunny remarks to his family 😂

Hope Kimmel sues them into oblivion. Carr should be sued in his individual capacity.
I’m torn on this one. The FCC threat was the type of retaliatory crap that drives me crazy. But it’s aLao overtly ridiculous that ABC/Disney is running an over the air propaganda machine on Kimmel and The View everyday but that’s probably something for the market to sort out; not the federal government.

Opened the thread, read through it, and that was the first thing that came to my mind. A bunch of (mostly) grown adults, really trying to cope with their own inner anger… aka, a lot of butthurt in here.
When people are assassinated for opinions and speech people tend to get angry.

If this was a respected voice from the left cut down in a politically motivated assassination they would be angry. Basic human emotion, there are actions and reactions, all emotional.

I understand, I have emotional reactions too, but mine tend to be toward innocent children assassinated in schools. What’s sad is if CK was a 6 yo in an elementary school, America would have already moved on.

Fox News is cable. ABC and Kimmel are over the air broadcasters.

“Publicly threaten”. LOL. Nice spin.

Commercial broadcasting has a responsibility to serve the public interest. Kimmel going on the air lying to the audience does not serve a public interest. In a heated moment in time in America he was a risk to ABC and affiliates in a time when the popularity of his show has trended down for years.

Assassinate a 6 y/o in public where its being recorded before other young people and the shooter would meet a heinous end.

I do find this interesting.

He is a grade A douche. Conservative media constantly give him relevance by posting the things he says in poor taste. Same with the View.
Very small audience that watches both shows. Conservative media reporting on their asinine takes is for clicks. Alex Jones (also a grade A douche) benefitted from the liberal media doing the same.
I'm guilty of posting crap they say. Some of it is terrible.

What is the answer? I believe in free speech and free consequences for what you say.

The consequence is dwindling viewership and being obsolete over time.

Not being taken off the air because you've angered Little Lord Fauntleroy and his soldiers.

I can't disagree, but there is a distinction, an important one to be made. That six year old wouldn't have been gunned down because they were a six year old going to school.

Kirk on the other hand was assassinated because he challenged people on topics that are considered "out of bounds", I didn't agree with everything he's said. But he's made some interesting points that seem to have some merit and resonate with many, right and left. But everyone feels they have to draw battle lines because if you concede an inch you are among the enemy.

That's got to stop.......and it was a consistent theme of his interactions.

And the violence is out of control. This society is sick, and it's time we confronted the why's

Addition by subtraction.

The guy who got his start on The Man Show thought he was untouchable. The world is starting to heal.
What happened to him since that show? I'd love to ask Adam Carolla that question

Rosanne says "hey"
Bingo. The problem liberals have here is whataboutism. They're trying to draw a parallel between making false statements that has the potential to escalate political violence to a dumb racist remark. There is no one size fits all here. Every instance should be addressed on its own merits

There is no "narrative." That is such an overused word.

We have facts. Not narratives. You can't get around FCC Chairman, Brendan Carr's not-so-veiled threat.

"We can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to change conduct and take actions on Kimmel, or there's going to be additional work for the FCC to do." - Brendan Carr, FCC Chairman

^^^^ How is that comment from Trump's hand-picked FCC Chairman anything other than a coercive threat to either fire an employee, who was exercising his right to free speech, or face repercussions from the federal government? Kimmel's comments may have been in poor taste, but they were not illegal. He didn't even use profanity. You have the right to say things that are in poor taste. This is government infringement on free speech. It's overreach. There was a time when government overreach bothered Republicans. Trump has really changed some core Republican Party principles.
First of all, no question Trump wields tremendous power right now. That's a fact. But let's not overlook the power of ABC affiliates who said that they would not run Kimmel's show anymore. That's what killed the show

What is it about lawyers that they think a lawsuit is the answer for everything? How many times does the left have to lose to Trump in court to see that this is not the answer?

In this case he has an excellent argument that he was taken off the air due to government theats against his employer, motivated by a desire to squelch his political speech. It doesnt get much clearer than this.

Which things did you not agree with CK about?
