I’m old enough to remember leftists trying to get Tucker off Fox and they were trying to boycott his sponsors.

Maybe it wasn’t just cancel culture. His show sucked like many of the others.
LOL.

Regardless of your opinion of the show, it was on ABC for 22 years. That's a fact.

More likely than not, this can be accurately attributed to cancel culture.

I’m not a fan of the “hate speech” bs but I understand speech can have consequences. I also remember when people were silenced for “misinformation” and “fact checks.”

Yes, and I'm not condoning that ... but that would only be an infringement on free speech if those leftists were in the government. The difference here, is that Donald Trump and Brendan Carr are in the government.

it was cancel culture as are so many other examples - the affiliates saw that the die was cast and their viewers would going to leave; wasn't worse saving a low performing show to lose a chunk of viewers for all their other shows.

it's the same story whether it's lefty or righty viewers leaving.

Kimmel had lost a lot of his audience. When I left the television on ABC on accident, every night he wasn't funny or entertaining he was a political hack acting on grievances. He's been bad for business for a while. You should email ABC and explain to them you won't watch their network again without Kimmel on the air.

He won’t be missed.
Not by you .... I get it.

However, you don't keep a late night talk show running on a major network for 22 years, with that same major network also hiring you to host their signature arts & entertainment event 4 times (Jimmy Kimmel also hosted The Academy Awards in 2017, 2018, 2023 and 2024), unless you are doing well in the Nielsen ratings.

This is a country with a population of 340 million people. You don't speak for everyone.

I never watched his show and I wouldn't care about it's cancellation, if it was because of poor quality and low ratings, but it clearly wasn't that.

The show was cancelled in response to a threat from the FCC Chair to pull ABC's broadcasting license. We know this threat was made, because FCC Chair, Brendan Carr, was intelligent enough to make it public.

As far as the quality of Kimmel's comedy is concerned, I haven't seen enough of him to form an opinion .... but ABC obviously disagrees with you, because in addition to keeping his show on their network for so long, they also hired him to host The Academy Awards 4 times in the last 9 years.

we do not know what you claimed. yes the FCC Chair made the comment but several ABC affiliates decided to indefinitely stop airing the Kimmel show. After that, ABC followed suit (essentially across all affiliates). For your theory that ABC did this because of his statement to be true it would need to account for the affiliates decisions which were likely based on hearing from their viewers.

Disney/ABC could settle this by making the claim you are making. As of yet, they have not made the claim.

Many from the right are trying to excuse this by implying that Jimmy Kimmel Live! wasn't doing well in the Nielsen ratings .... I haven't cared enough to fact check this, but I will now .... I'll be back in a few with a link to ratings data.

It is probably a good excuse to end the show. Late night TV is dying.
