JG has always been better than Crompton. JGs worst stats are better than Cromptons best. JG has always had better arm talent than Crompton and JGs production has always been better than Cromptons. JG is and always has been a better QB than Crompton. No I don't think JG will reverse course and become as incompetent a QB as Crompton was.I think so. Thoughts?
There come back story are awfully similarJG has always been better than Crompton. JGs worst stats are better than Cromptons best. Both overcame poor play. JG...good lord, has had 4 OC's....4. Think it took half a season to "get" Chaney's system...at least that's what I think...he was missing way too many passes that he'd made last year, which initially just thought he regressed...but maybe he was "thinking" too much because the system was new. Regardless, feel good for JG to be hitting his stride.I think so. Thoughts?
I don't think I've ever seen JG throw the ball out of bounds on 4th down.
First, purely subjective evaluation that ignored a lot of factors.JG has always been better than Crompton. JGs worst stats are better than Cromptons best. JG has always had better arm talent than Crompton and JGs production has always been better than Cromptons. JG is and always has been a better QB than Crompton. There is no comparison in the 2 talent wise I feel. The only comparison is that our fanbase did indeed mistreat both of them. Crompton has never had close to the success JG has had just in games vs Aub, Ky and Mizz. That doesn't mean JG is a superstar it just means that Crompton never accomplished much in Knoxville. Crompton should be compared to Worley before ever being compared to a guy that's probably going to be top 5 in every career Tn QB stat before he's done.First, purely subjective evaluation that ignored a lot of factors.
Second, that wasn't even the point. The point was actually complimentary. Crompton arrived with high expectations and through a series of circumstances ended up being hated (in a real sense) and having shattered confidence. JG appears to have finally gotten past his mental and confidence issues and is playing well.
BOTH were turned around with Chaney as OC.
That's the problem. But on talent. Crompton had a ton of physical talent. IIRC, he was more heavily recruited than JG. Like JG... it was a long time before things clicked between his ears. There is no comparison in the 2 talent wise I feel.
LOL... what? Crompton put up 265 yds vs Bama in 2009. They had one of the best D's in the history of CFB that year. None of the 3 you mention come close to that. The only comparison is that our fanbase did indeed mistreat both of them. Crompton has never had close to the success JG has had just in games vs Aub, Ky and Mizz.
Dude. If that happens it will be more because he started when he shouldn't have been a starter than because he's better than Crompton, Worley, or anyone else. That doesn't mean JG is a superstar it just means that Crompton never accomplished much in Knoxville. Crompton should be compared to Worley before ever being compared to a guy that's probably going to be top 5 in every career Tn QB stat before he's done.
I believe he should be credited for just being there as being available physically is an important trait for a QB as well, especially considering the OL he was playing behind and the shitshow coaching development he went through his 1st 3 years. He's also not been in much of a passing offense and has limited minutes this year because we decided to play QB shuffle all season. Like him or not but his durability and consistent play is why he's going to be in the record books in Knoxville. BM got the same opportunity as a Fr that JG got as a RS Fr to be the starting QB, Guarantano turned his start into being a 3 year starter with a chance to start his 4th year, BM is probably now thinking about his options. JG was more than just there. That's the problem. But on talent. Crompton had a ton of physical talent. IIRC, he was more heavily recruited than JG. But then that's before you even look at the receivers each has had. Gerald Jones, Denarius Moore, and Quintin Hancock were the top 3 WR's in 2009. They simply don't compare in talent to MC, JG, and Palmer.
Dude. If that happens it will be more because he started when he shouldn't have been a starter than because he's better than Crompton, Worley, or anyone else.
I'm pleased as plum that he's turning things around... but I won't pretend he's been "good" before now. He's mainly just been "there".
Oh... so that's an excuse? It is all on the OL? Do you know or remember the OL Crompton played behind in 09? It was far less talented and much thinner than the ANY JG has played behind. JG compounded the OL problems by being so slow with decisions and by making bad decisions.I believe he should be credited for just being there as being available physically is an important trait for a QB as well, especially considering the OL he was playing behind and the shitshow coaching development he went through his 1st 3 years.
He was handed the job on a PLATTER... the QB shuffle was 100% on HIM. Not much of a passing O? By what measure? He has 3 great WR targets plus a great TE and the OL has pass blocked well all year. The only reason it wasn't much of a "passing offense" is that the passer wasn't playing well... AT ALL.He's also not been in much of a passing offense and has limited minutes this year because we decided to play QB shuffle all season.
Durability? Yes. Consistent play? He's been consistently bad up until the last few games....Like him or not but his durability and consistent play is why he's going to be in the record books in Knoxville.
And probably would be the starter now if not for his injuries.... for better or worse.BM got the same opportunity as a Fr that JG got as a RS Fr to be the starting QB,
JG was pretty much the only option after Dormady got hurt... and some of us recognized that Chryst wasn't really a good option last August.Guarantano turned his start into being a 3 year starter with a chance to start his 4th year,
Maybe. I couldn't say. I hope he stays. I think he has tremendous potential. He could even afford to take a RS next fall and have 3 years to play.BM is probably now thinking about his options. JG was more than just there.
