The 1st game was not solid. 1/8 on third down with most of those passes overthrown and would of been 1st downs. We should of won by 20 instead of needing a botched punt recovery to preserve a win.I'm as pro-backup QB as anyone, but JG has only had one bad game this season. The first two were solid. Don't think it's fair to criticize the coaches for not bringing him off the bench YET but I do think they should put a different QB in the game soon and if they perform well, let them start the next game.

I don't think we have good running backs. I think they are above average to average. Neither tb can break a tackle. They are fast but not blazing. They will do well versus bad to average defenses. This! If he struggles against a team we should beat, he will finally be done. Problem is we have a good defense, a huge O-line, and good running backs. It's not likely as long as we come to play that JG will struggle enough to be yanked in any of those games.
What he’s really saying is jg sucks against good defenses. Hell everyone that’s watched a game in the last 4 seasons knows jg is not a good qb, why defend him? He’s just not a good football player.
I completely agree w you and understand where you're coming from. AND you're right. He’s an average QB, that’s it. Not defending him, but he has some quality wins under his belt as a QB at UT. He has also made huge mistakes, like every QB does. My only defense of him is a reaction to everyone else blaming everything on him.
Where‘s the criticism of Wanya Morris in the Georgia loss? He was flat out awful and was a big reason UGA’s D line was in the backfield all day. If JG has just a half second longer on 2 of those fumbles, he throws it away or is able to scramble for a few yards.
If you look at the 1st half honestly it was not a perfect. All our points were gifted by the bad snap and Kirby’s boneheaded decisions. We easily could have been down by 2 touchdowns or more in the 1st half.Perfect first half vs the best D in CFB.
Then the team collapsed around him and he wasn't good second half.
I think he showed as long as the whole team around him isn't playing like crap he can get it done.
With good d we are easily up two or three. If you look at the 1st half honestly it was not a perfect 1st half. All our points were gifted by the bad snap and Kirby’s bone head decisions. We easily could have been down by 2 touchdowns or more in the 1st half.
Fair argument. I’d actually somehow forgotten how wildly inaccurate he was. Was just thinking about turnoversThe 1st game was not solid. 1/8 on third down with most of those passes overthrown and would of been 1st downs. Even mediocre defenses can have a good day against UT with that gameplan.Simple recipe, based on a couple of seasons of performance. Bring numbers into the box, stop the run. Manufacture QB pressure as you can and make JG throw it. No spy necessary, no sense in worrying too much about the middle of the field, at least early. Depending on down and distance, give help to whoever is covering Palmer.
With that I'm taking my chances. JG manufactured 14 points vs GA with a couple of great throws to, wait for it...... Palmer. So yeah, as a defense, holding the offense to 14 in a game...., well I'm taking that all day. And if I get beat, then I've got my own issues to deal with. Predictable. Stack the box, make him throw and lean on his tendencies.
Drives killed by a bad pass don't always "likely produce points." That narrative is used to push an agenda. We could have fumbled, had a penalty, been stopped on downs etc. Our line and rbs have not been great this year. All the bad passes were first downs and stopped drives which likely would have produced points. Not good enough. Not even close.
He threw 2 passes that were great catches by our most experienced receiver. With good d we are easily up two or three.
He played a perfect first half. Anyone acting like it was not a great half is obviously pushing their agenda. He threw a bunch of great passes including two long tds. That is a fact
Funny thing..his accuracy was literally the only thing the JG homers could tout as being ok since he became a starter. His completion % is/was their gold standard for being elite.According to PFF we have a QB that is only better then Vandys QB after 3 games!!!!
The biggest negative of Guarantano’s collegiate career has always been his accuracy, and this year has been no different. He has thrown a quarterback-fault incompletion on 18% of his throws this year, which is nearly 3.5 percentage points more than any of the quarterbacks on this list. Guarantano has also made a far higher rate of bad decisions — his 2.8% turnover-worthy play rate from 2019 ranked 25th in the FBS and has nearly doubled to start 2020. Most of those plays have stemmed from plays under duress and have impacted a pressured passing grade of 27.8 (lowest in SEC). The good news is that performance under pressure is unstable and Guarantano is one of four quarterbacks on this list without a turnover-worthy throw when clean.

Morris, Mays and Wright all had horrific grades according to stats recently posted on VN. Chandler and Gray all received bad numbers in pass protection. Did you see it?He’s an average QB, that’s it. Not defending him, but he has some quality wins under his belt as a QB at UT. He has also made huge mistakes, like every QB does. My only defense of him is a reaction to everyone else blaming everything on him.
