JG, Bailey's Relief Pitcher?

I have no idea the psychology behind JGs woes. Very complicated situation. But, for whatever reason when he has the clear green light opposed to being reeled in and even benched (momentarily) he is extremely wild and reckless at times.

We've never seen anything like this. Very unique circumstances for sure. There is NO DOUBT the young man is a great competitor and fighter. That should never be questioned.

But his recklessness (on the field) is confusing. It just appears that he gets in overdrive mentally and doesn't slow down to process the plays properly. He doesn't seem to let some plays develop and have patience. Then, on other plays he does.

But when he comes in after being benched, it's like he's a new person.

If Bailey is anywhere close to what it looks like his potential is going to be (very special), maybe they should bring JG down a notch (I know, crazy) and just pull his starting title all together? Maybe he can just accept this role? I have no idea.... Just very strange....

Bailey is a special talent and will hopefully usher in a new era in Tennessee football. Dude's got it all. Big arm, size, smarts......but he will be a freshman. If at all possible you do not want a freshman to start. They are way too hot and cold. Look at Nix for Auburn. Heck look at Mauer who can make a great play and then throw it into triple coverage. JG is just making his reads way too slow. By way too sow, I mean just a split second too slow which is all it takes. Let's pray that he can continue to learn the offense and that the clock in his head speeds up a little more, or that Mauer will learn not to throw the ball into heavy traffic. If that happens then we are golden. That means we do not have to start a freshman.

I wouldnt say that, having consistentcy at OC for an offseason should help him. If he gets more comfortable with Chaneys playbook and our new WR group he may get better at timing and anticipation, if not I think we have to move on quickly next year.

You do realize that Clemson won a national Title with a Freshman QB don’t you? Remember Johnny Manziel at Texas A&M? And even here at Tennessee, Casey Clausen and Eric Ainge both had significant success as Freshmen.

You're pointing out the few exceptions.. far from the rule. Most true freshman QBs need some time.

He was throwing into double and triple coverage so many times in the game. I mean there has to be somebody wide open, but to me he's slow on making progressions and always fixated on throwing to one receiver. While Bailey is a Frosh if he is the best option to win then he should play.

If Chaney can implement some quick screens with the incoming speed at WR and JG can hit the receivers in the chest.... I will attempt to forget the offensive disgustingness I watched live and on TV.

Like Hasselbeck said last night, JG wants to see it and then throw it. With his arm strength he could get away with it in high school, but in college it is too late and DB’s break on the ball.It will be very hard for him to break that habit.

It’s like sometimes he does this and other times he predetermines before the snap where he is going with the ball. Case in point. The 2 yard out that he completed to DWA on a 3rd down and 6 looked predetermined. I think this was the first serious after he had been benched. Why even throw that route? I would rather he wait for the longer route to materialize and if they weren’t open then just throw it to the bench. At least I would of thought he was trying to get a first down in that situation.

It's been said many times on this board already and I agree...JG's best bet is to get a clean slate and transfer to another program for a year.

I think more and more, Freshmen can step in and start...IF the are top level QB's. All these guys have been doing camps and running similar offenses in high school. The question is if HB is as good and mature as advertised. IF he is, he's going to be hard to keep off the field. Pruitt's got to know he needs someone coming up because JG has way too erratic swings of good and bad.

And therein lies the issue. It does not matter if they are running a perfect route utilizing their elite speed if the ball is thrown over their head or behind them, which JG keeps doing. I watched some catches last night that less athletic receivers would not have been able to make. They bailed out JG.

hate to see JG play so bad...cannon with no touch...he had a good comeback year...doubt he gets those chances next year...coaches have to have "the" quarterback that is consistent and cool as a cucumber...believe one is on the way...
