Jeronne Maymon back to the court...

F - Jeronne Maymon 6'7 - 260 lbs.
F - Jarnell Stokes 6'8 - 280 lbs.
G - Trae Golden (Hopefully the Trae Golden we saw at TAMU and FLA) 6'2 - 205 lbs.
G - Robert Hubbs 6'5 - 175lbs. (Before Nicodemus Christopher makes him a monster)
G - Jordan Mcrae 6'5 -180 lbs.

This is gonna be a great year, i'm already excited! With our size down low, and our great guards. We definetly have Sweet 16 (at least) talent. Can't wait! GBO :cheer:
You are forgetting the guy who is the glue to this team-Josh Richardson. He has to be on the line-up because of all that he does on the court for the team. Hubbs will be sixth man.

I agree. If Richardson makes as much progress this off-season as last year, he can be an all SEC player. Hubbs will get plenty of minutes in relief of McRae and Richardson.

fab news

If the team commits to winning starting now with highly focused offseason training the sky is the limit

Hubbs may not start at the beginning of the season, but by mid season he will be in the starting rotation. He is a better pure shooter than anyone on the roster. Penetrates decent, and finishes well at the rim.

Not going to happen because the game is more complicated than that. By midseason will he possibly be a bigger impact offensive player than Richardson? There is a very good chance of that. But that is not the only thing being taken into account when Martin picks who will be on the floor for the tip. #1 Richardson's defense will be ahead of Hubbs, by quite a bit. #2 Richardson is a glue guy that makes the engine run. With McCrae, Stokes, Maymon we dont HAVE to start Hubbs just because his offense is ahead of Richardson. #3 Having an offensive weapon to bring off the bench is an important tool for a team to have.

Correct the game is more complicated. But we have a team that is very streaky offensively... in shooting the ball in particular. And other than Richardson, we didn't have any good defensive players in our starting rotation this year. With the type of offense currently being played my most programs at the college level, having one good defensive player on the court is no better than having zero good defensive players on the court. But Hubbs will add range and consistency to our scoring, which will make Stokes and who ever else is playing the forward position have more options and more 1 on 1 play. By mid season Martin will realize this I think, and be starting his best 5 in order to win and stop a repeat from this year. Just my opinion.... we shall see!

A few weeks ago I would've put my money on Richardson keeping his starting spot. And I probably still feel that way, but I'm not as confident about it after the way the team performed to end the season. They'll do whatever gives them the best chance to win games.

With that said, I personally wouldn't call Hubbs the best pure shooter on the team without having played in a game yet. I won't judge him based on his first season, unless he has a Bradley Beal type freshman season. I'm guessing he'll be more in the mold of a Hopson or Pope; highly ranked in high school, offensive-minded guard that has a respectable Freshman season but doesn't take the conference by storm until later in their career. I'd be happy with 8 ppg on .4fg%. A volume shooter with questionable shot selection that has to adjust his game to be effective at this level.

So you're saying Quinn Cannington will start?

Did you watch the Maui game against Memphis?

Not trying to sound like a Debbie Downer, but that was a once in a lifetime game for any college player. If scouts only had that game to go on he'd be the #1 pick every year

Understandable I was just saying he does have skills. I don't see how they are limited. He plays with Stokes this year and Stokes is gone to the draft and is a late first round pick. It's more than just scoring and defense. He takes pressure off of Stokes and you aren't able to double team him and stokes creating more opportunity for both players and our guards.

Not to mention Maymon is an excellent passer dribbler, something we really missed this year. He will take pressure off of Stokes down low with the double team, but also off of Golden taking the ball up the court. If he Maymon develops a good mid range shot this offseason...oh my!!!

Exactly. I hate woulda coulda shoulda's but Maymon this year makes us in the tourney no problems and probably a top 25 team most of the year. You don't just take away an All SEC first teamer and not expect a drop off for a team. I'd go out on a limb and say we don't lose to GA both times and probably only to Ole Miss once.
