Is SEC defensive player of the week with 12 tackles and 1 sack.

I watched the replay today and he pretty much owned Darby in that game.

He's turning into a really good LB. I saw a piece about him on the Phil Fulmer show, seemed like a pretty good guy too.

Thats good. The defense next year will be built around him and McCoy.

I think we'll have a lot of playmakers on our defense besides those two. Hefney, Morley, Karl, both DE's, hopefully Bolden. I think playing with Harrell this year will pay some dividends next year by accelerating the learning curve on our DTs, though of course I would have preferred Harrell this year.

Speaking of linebackers, am I the only one who thinks that Marvin Mitchell is playing way better than I thought he would this year? He's been a good one.

Youre not the only one (isnt that a song?). I was pessimistic about our linebackers coming into the year, and I didnt know if Marvin could step up into the Westmorland-Simon-Burnett mold we've had in recent years. He's been impressive.

I'd like to see Mayo lined up at end even more after the speed rush he put on Wilson at the end of the game. :w00t:

Imagine a LB crew next year of a more experienced Mayo and Karl with a SO Rico McCoy.

We'll certainly miss Marv though. He's played like an All-SEC LB.

he and al wilson are hard for me to pick between, but my gut says grant just for the pick in the fla. game in 98. by the way, i have looked for that on youtube and cant find it. somebody needs to post that cause that play saved the game and the season.

Mayo played lights out saturday. We actually got to see what kind of player he is when he is not hurt. I am looking forward to watching him being healthy the rest of the year.

Mayo is definitely playing well, and the great thing is he's only going to get better.

Here's what he had to say about the South Carolina game this year:

"That one really hurt," UT linebacker Jerod Mayo said. "Especially against a guy like Steve Spurrier, you know how that is. We'll get them this year."

Yeah, if anyone finds that clip or posts it on youtube, send me a private message.

also, i was looking for clint stoerner's fumble on youtube and couldn't find it.

I think they'll be great next season as well... but who makes the move to MLB? Mayo, Karl, and McCoy are all OLB.... aren't they?

the entire d should be better next season...there a lot of players this season getting a ton of experience...i expect the LB's to come a long nicely. The D line will have to get better and we'll need some guys to step up in the Secondary next season.

but over all, our D as a whole should be pretty good next year.

Here's a Mayo quote:

"We're going to be a real, real good defense next year, I promise you," he said. "We're good this year but when these guys get a little bit more experience under their belt, we're going to be excellent next year."
