They most likely think he could be special in the future, but didn’t really have any intentions of hiring him then. Still impressive though to get an NFL HC interview without even being a coordinator yet, tells you how highly they think of him.Yes he's already interviewed for a HC NFL job....
But i guess it's lower stakes in the NFL?
the last person that people spoke of so highly was Vrable and I see why . Certainly would not hurt to have someone like Al Wilson or Raynoch your head off Thompson come in and break a couple of chalk boards and let these players know who the hell they are playing for. From what I’ve read the whole thing with not letting former players come back and work out or visit started with Dooley. Butch seemed to be more about bringing the old guys back but after I read more that didn’t seem to be quite true unless you were Manning or Inky. I don’t know how it was with Pruitt. If I were hired as coach at UT one of the first things on my agenda would be to get the former players more involved. Look at how Miami did. When they would start sucking the old guys would literally come back and chew their asses for screwing up what they built. I know as a player I’d be motivated and play my ass off if I had 3 or 4 pro bowlers on the sidelines observing.
