Jerod Mayo said he's going for 3 sacks Saturday and that he's going to lineup at DE on passing downs a lot. He said this while eating Gator tail for lunch at Gibbs today.

Him lining up a DE is intriguing. I hope Rico is ready to lay the wood in Mayo's absence in the middle.

Here's to him walking the walk. :toast:

Ben Martin and Jerod Mayo on the end. What a pass rush. But you are right, he better walk the walk, and the D better be ready to stop their option.

It might just be that "stopping the option" is what we're after. Putting Mayo on the end certainly increases the speed at the position, allowing him to get off his block and chase down a pitch man or QB if needed.

If they are going to do that, why not use a 3-4 and have Mayo line-up as an OLB/DE? You could line Ben Martin at the other OLB/DE spot. Seems perfect. QB doesn't know which OLB is rushing the QB or dropping into pass coverage or both.

I fully expect Chief to have several wrinkles in the D come tomorrow. We will see several things that have not come out this year yet. I actually thought we'd see some LB's lined up at DE to protect contain on options and sprint outs.

LG likes to sell Urban's offensive scheme as some mystery. There are several teams running versions of it with varied success and the defensive minds have been planning for it for some time.

Good assessment, but I don't think our DL is big enough, although it isn't out of the realm of possibility that we might see some 3-4 in this game. Here's to Tebow's helmet popping off a lot in this game.

You need a space-eating DT. UT doesn't have that. I wouldn't be suprised to see some 3-4 fronts, but it will not be the main defense.

I would be tempted to use 3 DT in a 3-4 with Bolden, Williams, and Mapu as DT, and Mayo and Martin as OLB/DE. The 3 DT are the 3 largest pass rushers UT has. I would like to see how it would work.

Makes sense. Will the coaches try it?

No I dont think they will.

It's too late to teach Mayo/Martin the position and the coaching staff doesn't have the courage to tell Mitchell, Reynolds, and Ayers they aren't getting it done and they are now playing on 2nd team DL behind Bolden, Williams, and Mapu.

Bring 5 to the line. Put the pressure on! Tebow cannot handle the pressure. Blitz early and often. If you see movement on the line then Chavis actually has his "aggressive" package in which usually leads to a win.

Mayo is obviously our best defensive player. I would like to see him lined up all over like Leonard Little used too. I especially like the blitz right up the gut. He has the speed and power to be a major disruptor. Go Big Orange!

he was quiet last week, my God! he needs to rise up and become the leader of our defense this week.

I hope they are all so stoked.....
Lamarcus I said "stoked", not "smoked", ..don't get excited.

Ummm, this is nothing new. We have used our LBs at DE alot in pass rushing downs in the pass couple years. Watch the USM game. Watch the Bama game from last year. We do that alot. We will put a LB at DE and DE at DT for speed.
