Jerod Askew

He couldn't learn the defense but should do better in Wilcox's simpler system. The freshman that played are simply better than him too.

Hubbs said today that Askew has lost weight, looks better physically and appears to have his grade issues in order.

The only reason he redshirted was because he didn't want to out shine Eric Berry on D. Very humble guy.

We weren't that thin at ILB last year. Did anyone expect us to be using a 3rd stringer to finish out the last half of the season. And it could've been better, but it was hardly a kiss of death.

 ?

we werent that thin -
Yes, we were very thin and forced to convert Frazier from OLB to MLB when Reveiz went down. the back up Mikes werent ready to contribute. when they finally got their chance after Frazier went down, they did not play particularly well.

couldve been better but it was hardlu a kiss of death -
is a huge understatement,
Auburn, Ole Miss & Va Tech absolutely exploited our LB core as we missed countless tackles.

It was hard to watch that game. The LB could not make a stop.

"Just adjusting to the system and really the whole school part was difficult," Askew said of last year. "It was a tough adjustment with football and outside of football. Really all of it was tough. It was much more difficult than I thought."

Askew admits he was humbled by last fall and now gets what college football is really about.

"Just experiencing the college life and understanding that there are no games. It's all serious. There are no games at this level," Askew explained.

"I wouldn't say I am ready, but pretty soon I think I will be. I am learning the playbook better," Askew said. "I am definitely going to contribute this year for sure. There is no doubt in my mind. Right now, I am still in a learning process and still getting into great physical shape."

It's a learning process that Askew finds much easier than a year ago and one in which he feels he is ahead through three of the 15 spring workouts.

"I think it is more basic than last year," Askew said of the defense. "Right now, I think I am at about 80 percent in terms of knowing the defense. Last year I was about 50 percent at the end of the season."

Just says that he is ready to take the next step and contribute this year, and talks about how he struggled adjusting to school as well as football at this level.

I think physically this kid is Rolando McClain part 2...time will tell if he gets to that level mentally

That is saying a lot because McClain is a beast. He just needs to get the game down and he will be a stud.

Yeah...unfortunately sometimes a player can be an absolute stud but just never "get it" and never amount to much...

Hopefully Askew won't fall into that category...I've been expecting alot out of him since he signed

Does anyone know what the deal with Reviez is?

I mean...is he going to make a full recovery?

I know he'll be out of contact this spring but is there any doubt he'll be full speed by fall camp?

If he is full speed is there any doubt that he'll start?

Could Askew take the spot with a solid spring?
